The Phonix Suns received unfortunate injury news last night that Kevin Durant will be out for at least two weeks due to a calf strain. This is a tough hit to the team’s impressive 8-1 start to the season. Expect Devin Booker to be the player that needs to step up the most in his absence.
In the first matchup without Durant, the Suns are set to face off with the Sacremento Kings. The Kings hold a record of 5-4 but still have their eyes on the postseason.
Sacremento enters this game as a one-point favorite and -118 on the moneyline. Phoenix is considered -102 underdogs on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook with the game total set at 227 points.

Over 28.5 Points (-120): The point line for Devin Booker is set at 28.5 points with the over favored at -120 and the odds for the under set at -110. So far this season Booker has averaged 23.1 points per game. He has eclipsed 28.5 points in just two out of the first nine games with the most notable being his 40-point performance against the Clippers.
There will be more on Booker’s plate from a scoring standpoint without Durant, who was averaging 27.6 points per game and leading the team in scoring. While 28.5 is a notable uptick from his average, expect Booker to come out firing against a mediocre Sacremento defense. Expect Booker to set a tone for this Suns team and come out in attack mode. I like Booker to clear his points total of 28.5 points tonight.
Over 4.5 Rebounds (-105): Devin Booker’s rebounding prop is set at 4.5 with the under-favored at -125 odds for the over set at -105. So far this season Booker has averaged 4.2 rebounds per game which is on pace for the 4.0 he has averaged throughout his career and 4.5 tallied last season. Sacremento ranks 22nd in the NBA in rebounding as a team on the season. However, they are headlined by Domantas Sabonis who ranks second in the NBA in rebounding with 13.0 per game. The Suns will need to overcome the 6.6 rebounds per game that Durant typically produces, but I am not as optimistic that Booker will make his impact felt in this area.
Over 6.5 Assists (-110) The assist line for Devin Booker is set at 6.5 with the under-favored at -110 odds and the odds for the over set at -110. The addition of Tyus Jones has opened up the Suns’ offense by allowing their stars to play off-ball and serve as more of a traditional point guard. Booker has still spent a surprising amount of time as a primary playmaker and has grown in his passing ability throughout his NBA career.
So far this season Booker has averaged 6.8 assists per game and produced 6.9 assists per game last year. He has recorded over 6.5 assists in four of the nine games thus far. This is a difficult stat to handicap as the game script and how Sacremento elects to guard him will play a role. Expect the ball to be in Booker’s hands more often, and if the Kings attempt to force others to beat them, it could open the door for plenty of assists. But expect the primary plan for him to be in a score-first mindset and I lean toward him staying under the 6.5 assist total.

Depending on the severity of Kevin Durant’s injury, Devin Booker could also grow into an intriguing dark horse MVP candidate. He currently holds +6000 odds of winning the prestigious award which ranks 10th in the NBA. It should also be noted that Durant holds the eight-best odds at +3500. Booker is also tied for the ninth-best odds of winning the Clutch Player of the Year award at +2500.
