No one could have foreseen the final blow that Agatha All Along’s finale delivered. Yet, it was right in front of us this whole time.

The set up
Episode 8 featured Agatha All Along’s big battle, and Agatha made sure no one was comfortable the whole time.
At least twice, it appeared she was going to doublecross Billy. If not for Billy’s last-second question about his impending death being a repetition of history with her son, Nicholas, Agatha may have let him die instead of her.
But in the end, Agatha sacrificed herself for Billy, who would later put together pieces for a puzzle that’d be fully realized in the finale. All we knew at the end of episode 8 from this revelation: The Witches’ Road was far too reminiscent of Billy’s room.
The songwriter
One other thing that came up in episode 8 was Death asking why Agatha let everyone believe the story about her giving up Nicholas for the Darkhold. Agatha claimed the truth was far worse — which may be the case.
Mention of Nicholas again left us in a spot where we needed answers. Agatha All Along’s finale had to deliver on that front. But, the amount of time we got with the character was unexpected.
Moreover, why we got Nicholas’ story was remarkable.
In his short time on Earth, Nicholas created The Witches’ Road song. Although, he did so innocently. Agatha then twisted it for her own doing. When Nicholas passed — through somewhat natural causes and no one’s fault — she did so much more with the song.
The Witches’ Road was a con. Nothing more. It’s how Agatha powered herself over the years. The gift her son didn’t intend to give her.
And while Nicholas always helped mom out, it was clear he wanted to stop tricking other witches. Agatha knows he would not have approved.
The architect
The road was a farce, yet Agatha and company traveled it. How?
Turns out, Billy is more like his mom than he realized.
But Agatha knew the moment the road became real. She’s been steps ahead of everyone all long.
Final thoughts
This show was surrounded by doubt. Agatha is far from a top-tier Marvel Comics character, despite her amazing contributions to WandaVision. Yet this thing delivered right up until the end.
It was fun. There were high stakes. The MCU just got richer on a few fronts.
And the writing was brilliant.
There’s nothing like having a con at the center of a magic story. When done right, it’s a thing of beauty. Especially when you know the con artist is conning you, yet they still manage to pull off the trick.
