As Election Day approaches in less than a month, we’re reviewing the most recent odds for the 2024 U.S. Presidential race. These odds are available in Ontario, Canada only.
Last week we detailed the line movement we’ve been seeing and now we can report that Republican nominee former President Donald Trump has taken over as the favorite in the race for the White House against Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump currently sits with -140 odds, while Harris is trailing at +110.
This shift in the odds represents a significant change in the race’s dynamics. Just a month ago, on September 13, Kamala Harris was the clear favorite with -125 odds. Trump’s +100 odds following last month’s presidential debate were his worst since the moment when markets opened and he was at +250. Conversely, Harris’ current +110 odds represent her trending in the wrong direction after sitting as high as a -135 favorite on September 23.
With Trump pulling ahead in the odds, it signals growing momentum for his campaign and suggests a potential turning point. RealClear Politics currently has Harris with a narrow 1.7-point lead in its average of polls, however it currently has Trump ahead in key battleground states such as Pennsylvania (+0.1), North Carolina (+0.5), Georgia (+0.5), Arizona (+1), Michigan (+0.9) and Nevada (+0.2).
In the most recent NBC News poll, conducted from October 4-8, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are locked in a tie, each earning 48% of the support from registered voters. Meanwhile, 4% of voters are undecided or say they wouldn’t vote for either candidate when limited to these two choices. When factoring in third party candidates, Trump actually holds a narrow 1-point edge. At the same time, all of this is far from written in stone, as NBC News notes that 10% of voters say they might change their minds before Election Day.
As the election draws closer, it’s becoming clear that the race is much tighter than what the odds may have initially suggested and will likely be among the closest in U.S. history.
