UPDATE 8:13 PM ET: Hutchinson underwent emergency surgery in a Dallas-area hospital for a “broken tibia.”
UPDATE 8:04 PM ET: Head coach Dan Campbell said that Hutchinson suffered a tibia injury and will out “for a little while.”
Early in the third quarter, with the Lions up 34-6 over the Cowboys, Hutchinson lined up on the left side of the defensive line and rushed Dak Prescott on 3rd-and-11. He got off the line quickly, brushed aside the right tackle’s right arm, then pounced on Prescott. Unfortunately, it was a Pyrrhic sack as he suffered an injury when his left leg got whipped by another defensive lineman after he was pushed towards him.
Here is the playโbe weary, it’s not for squeamish eyes:
Hutchinson required a cart to take him off the field.
The number two pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has certainly lived up to the hype. He played all 34 games in his first two seasons, racking up 21 sacks, four interceptions and three forced fumbles. Entering Week 6’s contest, Hutchinson had 6.5 sacks and forced fumble. The 6.5 sacks were leading the league.
Prior to the season, Micah Parsons was the favorite to win DPOY. After Week 1, T.J. Watt was the favorite. After Hutchinson’s 4.5-sack performance in Week 2, he moved up the totem pole, but Watt was still the favorite. After Week 4, Hutchinson overtook Watt and was +250 to win the award prior to Week 6’s game. Watt will likely now be the favorite to win the award.
We will provide more updates as they become available.
