Jeanty was +2000 to win the Heisman at DraftKings Sportsbook entering the weekend, despite the fact that he had been putting up massive numbers. It is just a huge uphill battle to win the Heisman Trophy as a player from a Group of Five conference and to win it as a running back. However, after another monster performance in Week 5, Jeanty has emerged as a serious contender to win the award. He is now +1000 to win the Heisman, the fourth-best odds of any player.
The last time a player won the Heisman from a team that is not currently in a Power Four conference (or Notre Dame) was Roger Staubach with the Naval Academy in 1963. Since 2000, only three running backs have won the award- Reggie Bush, Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry. So, history is heavily stacked against Jeanty, but the numbers he is putting up are historic as well. Through only four games, Jeanty has 845 yards and 13 touchdowns and he is averaging over 10 yards per carry. If Jeanty continues at this pace, it will be hard to deny him a spot in New York as a finalist, at the very least.
