UPDATE: Late Thursday night, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reported that Seager will undergo sports hernia surgery on his right side Friday, ending his season.

SEPTEMBER 4: Before their Wednesday night home game against the Yankees, the Rangers opted to place Corey Seager on the 10-day IL, in a move that could potentially mean the shortstop is done for the season.
Seager will be officially eligible to come off the IL mid-month, but with the Rangers six games under .500 and 8 1/2 games out of the Wild Card race, there isn’t much reason to push him to come back.
He reached 200 career home runs last Thursday and has 30 homers this season, despite being limited to 123 games by various injuries. It was his third straight season with at least 30 long balls, and he has a solid .364 wOBA, which is in line with his previous career numbers.
Seager is in the fourth year of a 10-year deal with the Rangers, so the team will make sure to get him right for next season, when they’ll hope their starting pitching holds together much better. As it did last year, when they won the World Series with Seager earning his second World Series MVP award.
While Seager is out, Josh Smith ($4,000) will likely get more playing time at SS. He’s an interesting play in Wednesday’s DFS contests including the MLB $200K Bat Flip [$50K to 1st]. He will bat leadoff against Marcus Stroman ($6,600), in a game in which the Rangers are -112 on the moneyline with the over/under at 8.5 runs. – Zach Thompson
