The Pacers locked up a key contributor to their culture and their second unit in guard T.J. McConnell. On Friday, the Pacers agreed to terms on a four-year extension worth $45 million with guard T.J. McConnell on Friday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
McConnell’s new deal will begin in the 2025-26 season, and will keep him in Indiana at least through the 2028-29 season. He is playing this year for $9.3 million. He’ll then get a slight raise on this new contract, forgoing the opportunity to become a free agent next offseason.
The 32-year-old veteran played four years with the 76ers before spending the last five with the Pacers. He averaged 18.2 minutes per game last year, mostly coming off the bench and running the offense when Tyrese Haliburton was off the floor. He averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.
In the playoffs, McConnell increased his workload and stepped into one of the primary roles when Haliburton was out against the Celtics. He’ss shown the ability to put up huge performances in short spans when asked to carry the load.
In addition to that potential for periodic big games, he’ll continue to provide a veteran presence and good defensive intensity off the bench for the Pacers next year.
McConnell’s Pacers start the season by visiting the Pacers on Wednesday, October 23, and they are -5.5 in that contest on DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Pacers are -600 to make the playoffs this year but have the eighth-shortest odds at +2500 to win the Eastern Conference.
