Chris Kirk ($6,200; 56.5 FPTS) shot a six-under 64 on Thursday and led the FedEx St. Jude Championship after one round. The betting market didn’t have much faith in him, though, as he was priced at +2200 to win the tournament, the seventh-lowest odds. On Friday, Kirk shot an even-par 70 and dropped to T10.
After Thursday’s round, Hideki Matsuyama ($9,300; 83 FPTS) was one stroke back of the lead while Denny McCarthy ($6,500; 81.5 FPTS) was two strokes back. They are now tied for the lead at 11-under heading into the weekend.
Matsuyama had one blemish on Friday, a bogey on Hole 4. He was perfect the rest of the way, draining five birdies on the front nine and two birdies on the back nine.
McCarthy had two bogeys, one on Hole 7 and the other on Hole 12. He also had five birdies on the front nine and four birdies on the back nine to finish tied for the low score on the day.
In the $1M Summer Sand Trap tournament, McCarthy is rostered on 6.94% of teams while Matsuyama is on 12.44%.
DraftKings Sportsbook has Matsuyama with the second-lowest odds to win it all at +280. McCarthy has the fourth-lowest at +750.
Scottie Scheffler ($12,400; 67 FPTS) was at +250 to win it all after Thursday, when he finished two strokes back. He is now at +180, as he sits in fourth position, only two strokes back of the lead.
