He’s baaaaaaaaack.
Sidelined since June 16 with a fractured wrist, Betts has been reinstated from the 10-day IL and will be in the lineup on Monday when the Dodgers take on the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Betts was in the midst of another fantastic season prior to his ailment, slashing .304/.405/.488 with a 154 wRC+ in his 331 plate appearances. Even more crucially, Betts had started 61 games at shortstop for Los Angeles — a position he had not played at the MLB level before a cup of coffee in 2023. However, Dave Roberts has already stated that Betts will return to the outfield for the stretch run of 2024.
As weird as it is to say, the Dodgers sort of need Betts to hit the ground running. While the club remains the odds-on favorite to win the World Series on the DraftKings Sportsbook at +360, the NL West remains wide open. In fact, the red-hot Padres and Diamondbacks both sit just 3.5 games behind Los Angeles as we enter play on August 12. Despite the competition, the Dodgers remain -390 to win their division.
