There are obviously exceptions, but more often than not, it is prudent to go the Flava Flav route when it comes to highly-touted prospects getting their first taste of the big leagues: Don’t believe the hype.
Jackson Holliday ($3,000; 20 FPTS) was yet another shining example, as the number one overall prospect by many, was brutal in his first taste of The Show, slashing .059/.111/,.059 in 36 plate appearances back in April. The walk rate was 5.6% while the strikeout rate was a whopping 50%. He was sent back to Triple-A to get his bearings and confidence back.
Fast forward two months, Holliday got the call once again, and he showed why he was one of the top prospects in the game, sending a ball into the seats for the first time in his career with a grand slam on a 0-2 pitch in the fifth inning of Wednesday’s game against Toronto.
Colton Cowser ($4,000; 19 FPTS) hit a solo shot in the second inning. Both Gunnar Henderson ($6,200; 19 FPTS) and Cedric Mullins ($3,600; 19 FPTS) racked up two hits. Henderson had a triple, a walk, a RBI and scored twice while Mullins scored a run, walked three times and stole a base.
Grayson Rodriguez ($9,300; 22.1 FPTS) struck out eight in six innings, walked three and allowed three earned runs on six hits. The big blow came off the bat of Addison Barger ($2,900; 23 FPTS), who hit a solo home run in the third inning. He also had a double and a walk.
