NFL DFS Value Picks for Week 8 on DraftKings

NFL DFS Value Picks for Week 8 on DraftKings

I can’t lie. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become a little bit more of a purist about how I like to ingest my football, and it doesn’t involve getting up before 9:00 a.m. ET on a Sunday morning to set my lineups because there’s a game about to kickoff in Europe. That’s just me.

So, I’m pretty pumped that we have a normal, jam-packed, 11-game featured NFL DFS slate for Week 8. No time zone confusion required — expect for maybe Daylight Saving Time. Oof.

Let’s dive into the madness and find some value plays, shall we?

NFL DFS Value Picks: Best Cheap DraftKings Plays for Sunday in Week 8

QB Kyler Murray, Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions, $5,600

There’s just so much to like here — despite the fact that Kyler Murray comes into this contest averaging a putrid 0.36 FPTS per drop back. Heck, Murray hasn’t even thrown for multiple touchdowns in a single start this season, but it doesn’t matter for two reasons. First and foremost, he’s about to go up against the Lions, who have conceded the most FPTS per game to opposing QBs. Detroit also ranks dead-last in passing yards allowed per contest (291.8), which is a clear byproduct of a beat-up secondary and opposing teams throwing at a league-high 65.8% clip versus this underwhelming defense. Second, and maybe most importantly, Murray’s started to show signs of life with his legs. Despite a bye in Week 6, Murray’s 90 rushing yards since the beginning of Week 5 are the fourth-most of any quarterback. If the former No. 1 overall pick can start showcasing his dual-threat abilities again, his fantasy ceiling skyrockets.

RB Rhamondre Stevenson, New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins, $5,600

There’s been some uncertainty in the Patriots’ backfield rotation in recent weeks, but it’s crucial to note that the rise of Corey Kiner ($4,000) has really only impacted TreVeyon Henderson ($4,600). In fact, Rhamondre Stevenson’s role is among the most consistent in all of football. To wit, in each of the past four weeks, the veteran back has logged a snap share somewhere between 60% and 75%, and he’s used that opportunity to garner double-digit touches. Stevenson’s also exceeded 17.0 FPTS in three of these games. Stevenson’s only averaging 3.7 yards per attempt for the season, and his rushing success rate (49.4%) leaves much to be desired, yet his involvement in New England’s passing attack gives him a very sturdy fantasy floor. Stevenson ranks third on the team in both targets (24) and receptions (20). Add in a matchup with an inexperienced Miami defense that’s bled the third-most FPTS per game to opposing RBs, and you’ve got the formula for Stevenson to well out-perform his modest salary.

WR Omar Cooper Jr., New York Jets vs. Las Vegas Raiders, $4,800

It hasn’t come with a ton of volume, but across Week 6 and Week 7, rookie Omar Cooper Jr. was the fourth-highest scoring wide receiver on DraftKings (50.8), trailing only Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Malik Nabers and Tre Tucker. That’s some pretty encouraging company to be keeping. In that same span, Cooper also ranked third in FPTS per snap (0.57), fourth in receiving yards (218) and fifth in receiving yards per target (18.2). I’m not quite sure how long the first-round pick will be able to keep playing at this level of efficiency, but it certainly helps that he’s got a very capable deep-ball thrower in Geno Smith ($5,200) as a teammate. Specific to Week 8, it doesn’t hurt that Cooper and the Jets will be opposed by the Raiders, either. Over the past three weeks, Las Vegas is surrendering 8.3 yards per opponent pass attempt — the second-highest mark in the NFL. Cooper can definitely take advantage of this struggling secondary.
