Ja’Kobi Lane returned from wrist surgery in Week 6 and made an immediate impact, catching four of five targets for 40 yards in Cleveland. He also drew a red zone target in that game, his third in just two appearances this season. Now Baltimore hosts Cincinnati with questions at quarterback and a banged-up receiver ahead of him. Find out whether you should start or sit Ja’Kobi Lane in Week 7.
Ja’Kobi Lane Start or Sit Advice for Week 7
The red zone usage is the intriguing part of Lane’s profile. Three red zone targets in two games is a notable share for a depth receiver, especially when Rashod Bateman has three across six games. If Baltimore keeps looking his way near the goal line, Lane has a touchdown path that depth receivers rarely get.
There may also be room for his role to grow. Bateman aggravated a shoulder injury late in the first half against Cleveland and drew just one target in that game, though head coach Jesse Minter said Bateman “should be OK” after a limited week of practice. If Bateman is slowed, Lane is the next receiver in line behind Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews.
Lane’s 8.0 PPR points in Week 6 also showed he can contribute on modest volume. That is an encouraging sign so soon after the wrist surgery.
The Biggest Fantasy Risk for Ja’Kobi Lane in Week 7
The volume is minimal. Lane has eight targets across two games, a 4.9% share of Baltimore’s season total, and he sits well behind Flowers at 8.4 targets per game and Andrews at 5.5. Baltimore throws only 28.0 times per game and generates 27.3 targets per game, so there is not much left over for a fourth option.
Cincinnati’s coverage also limits receivers. The Bengals allow just 28.1 PPR points per game to wide receivers against a league average of 32.0, with a 55.7% catch rate against a league mark of 62.1% and only 86.0 air yards per game. They also hold receivers to 37.0 YAC per game, well below the league average of 48.3. The Bengals have faced Tampa Bay, Houston, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville and Miami, a mix of strong and weak passing attacks that has thrown right around league average against them, so those numbers are a fair read.
The quarterback situation adds uncertainty. Lamar Jackson remains day-to-day with a left ankle sprain, and Tyler Huntley has started the past two games. Baltimore’s passing efficiency, a 111.1 team passer rating, was built largely with Jackson, so another Huntley start would cloud the outlook for every Ravens receiver, particularly a depth option like Lane.
Fantasy Outlook for Ja’Kobi Lane in Week 7
Sit Lane in Week 7. His red zone usage is interesting, and Bateman’s shoulder could open a few more targets, but his overall volume is too small to trust against a Cincinnati defense that has held receivers in check.
He belongs on benches in nearly all formats. Deep-league managers covering byes from the Chargers, Commanders, Bills and Jaguars can treat him as a touchdown dart throw, but there is little floor to protect them if the end zone does not come calling. Keep an eye on his role in the coming weeks, since a growing red zone share could make him relevant later in the season.
