Ole Miss vs. Texas player props
Kewan Lacy anytime touchdown (-110)
The Longhorns are a pretty difficult matchup for opposing running backs. They’ve allowed opponents to rush for 106.3 YPG and have limited them to only 2.9 YPC, which is a very impressive mark. Texas’ front is big and physical, allowing just four rushing touchdowns in six games. However, I’m still taking Ole Miss halfback Kewan Lacy to cross the plane and get in for a score, especially since his odds of any anytime touchdown are better here than in many other matchups. Lacy has just five touchdowns on the season in his five games, but he’d scored in four consecutive outings prior to last week against Missouri. What he lacked in a score, he made up for in yardage with 122 rushing yards on 16 carries, his second-heaviest workload of the campaign. He faces a tough test today, but the Rebels should be able to move the ball. When they get near the goal line, I expect Lacy to be the hammer that gets the job done and find his way in for at least one touchdown.
Arch Manning 230+ passing yards (-115)
It’s certainly worth noting that Texas’ leading rusher, Hollywood Smothers, is out today due to an injury. That does hurt the outlook for the Longhorns, who should rely more on Raleek Brown in the backfield but could also see an uptick in passing volume to make up for that absence. Such an outcome would bode well for Arch Manning, who’s shown only flashes of the quarterback that was promised this season. He has 1,295 passing yards for an average of 215.8 YPG through the air, tossing 11 touchdowns to five interceptions. The last few weeks have been more difficult for him – he’s thrown four touchdowns and three picks across his last three games, two of which were losses to Florida and Oklahoma – but the upside does remain intact. If the Longhorns go a little more pass-happy today, I like Manning’s chances of bouncing back with 230+ passing yards. Ole Miss allows an average of 236.5 passing yards per game, so even if the quarterback has only reached this line twice in six outings, there’s still a solid chance for him to get there. It also helps that Texas is only a three-point favorite in what should be a very competitive contest.
