San Francisco 49ers vs. Washington Commanders prediction, pick for NFL Week 6 on Monday 10/19/26

Updated:

By: Dan Johnson

Jayden Daniels tore through the Giants for 103 rushing yards and two touchdowns in his return from an elbow injury. Washington still bungled their way into a 27–27 tie, wasting the chance to attempt a winning field goal. Dan Quinn’s team should be mortified by such a disgraceful finish. Below is my preview, prediction, and pick for this week’s NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

49ers vs. Commanders prediction, preview

Tonight, offensive coordinator David Blough should unleash Daniels outside. Nick Bosa is out, and Dre Greenlaw’s suspension removes another accomplished pursuer. San Francisco has surrendered just 6.1 yards per pass attempt through five games, but Daniels can punish an edge defender who charges too far upfield. His beautifully timed dig to Terry McLaurin against New York caught an edge rusher stranded underneath. McLaurin finished with four catches for 62 yards and carries no game designation. San Francisco must honor that intermediate throw while closing Daniels’ escape routes.

Washington’s handoffs inspire considerably less enthusiasm. Jacory Croskey-Merritt is out with a groin injury after gaining 82 yards on 11 carries; Rachaad White scraped together 18 on seven. San Francisco has squeezed opposing backs to 3.7 yards per carry, permitting ten-yard gains on a league-low 2.5% of their runs. Blough can feed White and Austin Ekeler underneath, where backs have caught 33% of the completions against San Francisco. Stefon Diggs remains questionable with a hamstring injury, leaving Blough another potential hole to patch.

MVP candidate Brock Purdy has been magnificent, throwing 13 touchdowns against two interceptions through five games and striking at least twice every week. Against base defenses, he has been positively ruinous: nine touchdowns, no picks and 10.1 yards per attempt across 47 throws. Washington has used base personnel on 45% of snaps. Shanahan ought to relish sending Kittle after those linebackers with his quarterback throwing this brilliantly. Both starting tackles are cleared. Mike Evans remains questionable after missing every practice with rib and Achilles injuries; his 48.6% share of third-down targets shows what Purdy would lose. With Deebo Samuel out, Evans’ absence would also invite extra coverage toward Kittle.

Commanders vs. 49ers pick, best bet

Kittle has been merciless against two-high coverage, averaging 3.62 yards per route across 65 routes. Washington uses those looks on 71.4% of snaps and has hemorrhaged 74.4 receiving yards per game to tight ends. Kyle Shanahan can send Kittle through the middle while Christian McCaffrey occupies underneath defenders. Washington has held opposing backs to 3.8 yards per carry, although fullback Kyle Juszczyk returns to block for McCaffrey and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw remains questionable.

Washington has been helpless in the red zone, conceding touchdowns on 15 of 18 visits; San Francisco has finished 14 of 16. Their 32 points in Seattle included 21 off turnovers, however, with no first-half touchdown drive longer than 18 yards. Eddy Piñeiro supplied the late 44-yard winner. Purdy and Kittle should punish Washington. Daniels can conjure scoring chances, too; I expect enough Washington possessions to bog down against San Francisco’s coverage to land below 51.5, even if Evans plays.

Best bet: Under 51.5 points (-105).

Projected score: 49ers 28, Commanders 20.

Best Bet: 49ers vs. Commanders u51.5 total points scored (-105)
