Indiana vs. Nebraska prediction
We’ve got a pair of 5-0 teams meeting up in Big Ten play on Saturday afternoon, and Nebraska fans are going to be hyped for the chance to beat the defending national champs and improve to 6-0. The problem is, they’d need to beat a ranked top-10 team to do that.
The Huskers haven’t beaten a ranked team in 10 years — 2016 against Oregon. That’s an unfathomable 30 consecutive losses to ranked teams. Bump it up to facing top-10 teams and it doesn’t get much better. Nebraska is 3-32 against top-10 teams over the last 25 years.
Not that trends are the end-all-be-all, but I need Nebraska to prove to me that it can get over this hump before I show any trust. There’s also no reason to show any trust in the Huskers coach. Matt Rhule has lost 20 straight games against ranked teams, dating back well before he was hired at Nebraska.
Could the Huskers be good? Sure. But it’s not like this team has a signature win to hint that this team might be for real. The wins are over Ohio, Bowling Green, North Dakota, Michigan State and Maryland. Those teams stink.
Indiana has not looked as dominant this season, however, this might not even be a difficult opponent. We knocked the Hoosiers for their struggled with Northwestern, and the Wildcats have shown me a whole lot more than Nebraska has. IU also woke up last Saturday, with a 32-point road win at Rutgers.
Can’t back Nebraska until I see it. Give me the defending champs to extend their winning streak to 22 games.
Indiana vs. Nebraska best bet
Ultimately I have not placed a wager on this game, but lean strongly to Indiana as the road favorite. The 21-game winning streak likely makes the Hoosiers a safe leg in moneyline parlays or teasers if you wanted to look at that angle. But if you want to bet it, I’d take a look at Indiana jumping out early and going wire-to-wire. Rather than lay points, the Halftime/Fulltime market (which is a double result to lead at halftime and win the game) if fairly priced.
