The fall movie season has been full of everything from R-rated critical hits like Resident Evil and Primetime to nostalgia plays like Practical Magic 2 and Avengers Endgame: Encore. Another jam-packed week at the box office is going to test the industry’s health in a few ways, including the longevity of the Colleen Hoover boom. Verity hit theaters on October 2, marking the fourth theatrical film based off of one of Hoover’s books. So how much business did the romantic thriller starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson reel in over its first three days on the big screen?

Here is a breakdown of how Verity performed at the box office this past weekend:

Verity Box Office

Verity made an estimated $32.6 million at the box office between October 2 and October 4. The last Hoover adaptation, Reminders of Him, opened to $17.9 million in March of this year. That was a step above the $13.7 million that Regretting You scored on its opening weekend in October 2025, but well short of It Ends With Us‘ $50.0 million from August 2024.

According to Deadline, Verity made $4.5 million in domestic Thursday night previews. That cash is technically counted as part of the film’s $15.1 million Friday gross. It proceeded to make $10.0 million on Saturday and $7.5 million on Sunday. Following in the wake of The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey, Verity is Anne Hathaway’s third movie to open at No. 1 at the box office in 2026.

Looking beyond the United States and Canada, Verity has reeled in an additional $30.0 million overseas. In total, the film grossed $62.6 million worldwide this weekend. For context, Reminders of Him grossed $28.0 million globally through its first weekend, while Regretting You got out to a $22.8 million start and It Ends With Us debuted to $80.0 million. It Ends With Us remains the highest-grossing Hoover movie with its $349.7 million finish, followed by Regretting You at $90.4 million and Reminders of Him at $89.2 million. At the same time, Verity may have more genre overlap with The Housemaid, which had a slower international rollout upon its release in December 2025 and ultimately legged out to $400.5 million.
