Now, the Carolina Panthers head into a matchup on the road against the Cleveland Browns in Week 3.

Is Jalen Coker a must-start in Week 3 fantasy?
The contingent of die-hard Jalen Coker fans in the fantasy football community has multiplied over the last few months. He was an undrafted free agent out of Holy Cross of the FCS back in 2024 and didn’t carry much, if any, hype surrounding his profile. He paid his dues to grind his way up the depth chart, though. Last season, he showed flashes with three weeks of 14+ fantasy points in PPR formats from Week 13 and beyond, then he posted 28.4 points in an NFC Wild Card loss to the Los Angeles Rams. After several strong performances in a row, it began to seem like his rise wasn’t a fluke.
Now two weeks into the 2026 season, it appears that hunch was correct. Coker has erupted to begin his third pro campaign, posting 16 receptions on 18 targets for 204 yards and two touchdowns. His Week 1 emergence was the best game of his career – he posted eight grabs for 138 yards and both of his scores, good for 33.8 PPR points. Week 2 was somewhat quiet in comparison with 14.6 points, but he still caught eight balls for 66 yards on the day. He currently ranks fifth in receptions and sixth in receiving yards among all players in the NFL, irrespective of position. How’s that for a hot start?
The reasoning behind this breakout all comes down to how the offense is operating under new play caller Brad Idzik. He’s in his third season as offensive coordinator with the Panthers but just took over play-calling duties from head coach Dave Canales. The results speak for themselves.
Last year, it seemed like quarterback Bryce Young wouldn’t get into a rhythm unless Carolina was trailing, forcing a more aggressive game script. When that happened, though, he tended to get his team back into games with his arm and showed some of the best play of his career under center. Now, Idzik is calling a much more aggressive game with the Panthers tied for third in PROE around the league at 4.3%. That pass rate over expectation has Young airing the ball out more often, allowing the attack to run through his arm.
These pass-happy game scripts over the first two games have benefitted the team’s top weapons in the receiving game plenty. Coker and his star teammate Tetairoa McMillan have 18 targets each, meaning they’re tied for the team lead with a massive 27.3% target share. The next-closest name on that list for the Panthers is Tommy Tremble at 10.6% with seven total targets, so the receivers are the clear top options. Coker and McMillan not only lead Carolina in target share, but they also rank 15th and 16th across the entire NFL in the stat, too. They’re each seeing an elite split of opportunities that has allowed them to blossom through the early going.
If this offense keeps flowing through these two talents, then Coker is undoubtedly a must-start option in fantasy football moving forward. For reference, his target share at the moment is in the range of or outright better than names like Tee Higgins, Garrett Wilson, Jaylen Waddle and George Pickens – all elite fantasy assets. Coker has made the most of his opportunities and the Panthers’ attack looks quite formidable as currently constructed, so it’s unlikely that there are significant changes to this pecking order for the foreseeable future, too.
