The Mystics need to close the regular season with wins tonight and Thursday to secure the No. 6 seed, and Iriafen’s impressive play should continue this evening vs. the Sun. The forward has been outstanding in her last nine games, averaging 18.4 points and 11.2 rebounds in 29 minutes per game while shooting 59% from the field and handling a 23.2% usage rate.
Only once in this nine-game stretch has Iriafen failed to top 25.5 PR, and she most recently posted 21 points and 14 rebounds in a win over the Fever on Sunday. Indiana ranks 11th in defensive rating, but tonight’s matchup vs. the Sun is slightly more favorable with Connecticut ranking 12th in the metric. Iriafen posted 20 points and 10 rebounds the last time she faced the Sun in July and she should have a similar performance tonight.
Caitlin Clark O 21.5 Points (-113)
The Fever’s best path to clinching the No. 5 seed is winning their final two games, both of which come against the top-seeded Lynx. Minnesota may sit atop the standings, but this club hasn’t been playing up to its standard recently. The Lynx are just 2-3 in their last five and rank 10th in defensive rating during this stretch.
Minnesota has given up 89+ points in three straight, so Clark should have a big performance in this spot. The superstar has been brilliant as of late, scoring 37, 34, 28 and 25 points in her last four. Clark ranks second in the WNBA in usage rate this season (31.2%) and tonight’s critical matchup being at home in Indiana is huge for the guard. Clark is averaging 24.5 PPG at home this season compared to 20.8 on the road, and she has cleared 21.5 points in 11-of-19 home games.
Megan DiLeo U 12.5 Points (-130)
DiLeo has fallen short of 12.5 points in three straight games, including outings of eight, 12 and eight points. Ranking first in defensive rating and dead last in pace, Golden State is the worst possible matchup in the WNBA. Furthermore, the Valkyries have a ton to play for, as they can steal the No. 1 seed from the Lynx if the Valkyries win their final two games and the Lynx lose their final two games.
Golden State is going to be very motivated tonight, whereas Portland has nothing at stake – this team was eliminated from the postseason a while ago. In addition to this being a challenging matchup, the Fire may get Bridget Carleton (questionable, ankle) back in the lineup, which would hurt DiLeo’s usage. Nonetheless, the center should struggle with the Valkyries’ elite defense on the other side and is a strong bet for under 12.5 points.
