After an exciting Week 1, the NFL is ready to run it back with another big slate on Sunday. With eight games kicking off at 1 p.m. ET for the second straight week, DraftKings Sportsbook is ready to roll again this week with another massive Slate Breaker promotion. The NFL Slate Breaker promo will split that huge pile of bonus bets between all the bettors who placed their token on the player who scores the first touchdown of the day. The first touchdown of the game slate is defined as the player who scores the fastest touchdown in the least amount of time elapsed in their game compared to the rest of the 1 ET start time games. NFL Slate Breaker Picks for Sunday, Sep. 20:
When making NFL Slate Breaker picks, we’re looking for players who are likely not only to score the first touchdown in their game but also to do it quickly. There’s definitely some randomness in play with the coin toss, but we’re also looking for players with the potential to break a big play and score a long touchdown right away.
In Week 1, the Panthers actually lost the coin toss but got an early turnover, which stopped the game clock and set up Hubbard for the win in the NFL Slate Breaker contest. Carolina had an even earlier score from Darren Waller, but it was called back for a penalty.
These three picks are my favorite balance of likelihood to score, potential to score a long touchdown, and not too much popularity.
1. Derrick Henry First TD Scorer (+275)
The Ravens started the season with a win in Indianapolis, where they gave up the first touchdown of the day to Jonathan Taylor but got three touchdowns from Derrick Henry on their way to a 41-23 victory.
Henry racked up 144 rushing yards and moved into third all-time in career rushing touchdowns with 124 scores, trailing only LaDainian Tomlinson (145) and Emmitt Smith (164).
Henry will clearly remain the focus of the offense even under new head coach Jesse Minter, and he gets a juicy matchup this week against the Saints’ run defense, which gave up 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns to Jahmyr Gibbs in Week 1. In such a favorable matchup, Henry is -270 to score at some point, so getting him at +275 as the first touchdown scorer actually seems like solid value. If the Ravens win the toss and get set up to score early, King Henry definitely has the potential to be Week 2’s Slate Breaker.
Henry will probably be a fairly popular play, but the flip side is that he has a better chance of returning a win on the actual first TD scorer bet than some of the longer shots, which would bring higher payouts if they hit. It’s a balance, but there’s definitely a strong case for backing Henry in this matchup after his big first week.
2. David Montgomery First TD Scorer (+400)
Montgomery also had a monster Week 1, scoring three touchdowns in the Texans’ loss to the Bills. He had two rushing touchdowns and one receiving score and is the clear favorite in the scoring zone. Montgomery will likely have to carry the offense even more this week since Nico Collins (hamstring) was ruled out after a midweek injury.
The Texans host the Bengals in Week 2, and they’ll likely lean heavily on Montgomery again in the red zone. The veteran has also shown the ability to break big plays early in the past, including an 80-yard touchdown run on the very first offensive play and raced 80 yards untouched to the end zone in December of 2020 against the Texans when he was with the Bears.
With the Texans looking to take the focus off C.J. Stroud and the short-handed passing game, it could be another busy week for Montgomery, and if he gets the chances, he could end up with a score that makes him the NFL Slate Breaker in Week 2.
3. Emeka Egbuka First TD Scorer (+750)
The Bucs lost to the Bengals in Week 1, and Baker Mayfield struggled to find much rhythm. In Week 2, he’ll look to bounce back and take it to his former team as the Bucs open at home against the Browns, who were trounced in Week 1 by the Jaguars. Jacksonville’s receivers got loose for big plays throughout the game and finished with the third-most fantasy points of any receiver group. Wide receivers Parker Washington, Jakobi Meyers and Josh Cameron all found the end zone against Cleveland’s secondary.
Egbuka didn’t score in Week 1, but he clearly operated as the Bucs top receiver. In his 2025 rookie season, he flashed big-play upside with long scores, and this year he is being asked to take on even more work with Mike Evans now playing in San Francisco. If Baker looks to uncork a deep shot right away against the Browns, Egbuka is a likely target and could have a quick-strike score, making him a solid play for NFL Slate Breaker, who probably won’t have many tokens on him, resulting in huge bonus bets.
