Right in the middle of its run of must-see live shows, America’s Got Talent Season 21 has to manage a major change. A-list judge Simon Cowell will be absent from the panel while he recovers from back surgery, leaving SNL’s Kenan Thompson to fill the seat that sat vacant last week. All the while, the quarterfinals are already halfway done, with eight acts moving forward and 14 heading home. There are another 11 acts on the docket for the third wave of quarterfinals performances, too, representing the best of the best singers, comedians, daredevils and dog trainers who earned a stamp of approval from the judges earlier this year.

When does America’s Got Talent air?
The third quarterfinal of America’s Got Talent Season 21 will air live on NBC on Tuesday, September 1 at 8 p.m ET. The two-hour episode will be available to stream in real-time and on-demand on Peacock, as well.
This marks the fifth live episode of Season 21, with the quarterfinals getting started on Tuesday, August 18. 11 acts performed that night, then the fan vote results were announced during an additional one-hour episode on Wednesday, August 19. The show followed the same format a week later for Quarterfinals 2. The results for Quarterfinals 3 will be unveiled live on Wednesday, September 2 starting at 8 p.m. ET. The same Tuesday-Wednesday format will be in place for Quarterfinals 4, the Semifinals and the Finals in the weeks ahead.

What to expect on America’s Got Talent tonight
There are 11 acts competing in America’s Got Talent Quarterfinals 3, eight of whom made it through the judges’ callbacks. ACRO Crew, meanwhile, earned a Golden Buzzer from Terry back in the season premiere. Lai Noelle earned one from Simon in that same episode. Mel also sent Isaac Atkins straight from the auditions to the live shows with a Golden Buzzer in Episode 3.
And speaking of Golden Buzzers, one act will get a Golden Buzzer live on Tuesday, automatically advancing them past the fan vote and semifinals and directly to the finals. Magic group Hundred Fingers earned that honor in Quarterfinals 1 when Howie burned his, while Mel B used hers on rock singer and guitarist Nene Royal in Quarterfinals 2. The fate of the remaining 10 acts will be in the hands of the viewers at home, with voting results set to air on Wednesday. The three acts that advance will compete in the Semifinals on Tuesday, September 15. Six of the 12 semifinalists will join the Golden Buzzer beneficiaries in the Finals on Tuesday, September 22.
