The America’s Got Talent quarterfinals continued on Tuesday, despite one judge missing out on the performances. There were 11 acts trying to punch their ticket to the semifinals this week, although 10 of them were at the mercy of a fan vote with the results dropping Wednesday. As for the other, they earned a fast-pass to the finals from one of the A-list judges.

Danger act Brad & Tracy, rapper LaRussell, dancer Patrox, vocal duo Nyjah Music & Zyah Rhythm and singer Béty Dumitru were the first acts to get the bad news Wednesday night. And despite reaching the top five, vocal duo Butter & Grit and singer Mackenzie Sol got eliminated as well. There are currently 22 quarterfinalists remaining with six spots left in the semifinals lineup.
Who advanced on America’s Got Talent?
The first act to advance out of Quarterfinals 2 was rock singer and guitarist Nene Royal, who got a Golden Buzzer from Mel B live on Tuesday. She performed a heavy metal rendition of Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.” As a result, she skipped both the fan vote and semifinals entirely, jumping straight to the finals.
The results episode Wednesday night featured a performance from Steve Ray Ladson, a singer who finished in the top 10 in Season 20. Country duo The War and Treaty joined in on the set, as well. That, plus a handful of recap montages and interviews, killed time before the voting results themselves came out. Ultimately, aerial artist Veronika Goroshkova, dance group Come Here and magician Geno Ploeger advanced to the semifinals. They will perform again on Tuesday, September 15, before discovering their fate again on Wednesday, September 16.
What happened to Simon Cowell?
One of the four celebrity judges, Simon Cowell, was not at the Quarterfinal 2 performances on Tuesday. He was not present for the results show on Wednesday, either.
Cowell, 66, underwent a routine medical procedure and will be absent from America’s Got Talent for the next few weeks. According to Entertainment Weekly, Cowell had the surgery to address back issues. He initially started having back problems in August 2020, when he got in an electric bike accident and required fusion surgery.
