- Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Mets: Mets RHP Christian Scott 6+ strikeouts: Scott has gone for 6+ K in 6 of his last 7 starts, with his one under during that stretch still being a 5 K outing against a Royals lineup that is more disciplined than the Guardians.
MLB Strikeout Prop Bets Breakdown
Trevor Rogers 6+ K (-127), Baltimore Orioles vs. Los Angeles Angels
Rogers has thrown at least six strikeouts in three straight outings, as well as five of his last seven dating back to June 20. His 2.21 ERA, 2.54 FIP and 1.049 WHIP since the start of June are all pretty elite, putting the lefty in a good spot against an Angels lineup that ranks No. 25 in OPS. On top of that, Los Angeles averages the second-most strikeouts per game in MLB. In their first game post-deadline teardown, the Angels struck out seven times in 6.0 innings against Cade Povich. Rogers is a tad better than Povich when it comes to generating punchouts, averaging 7.3 K/9 this season and 8.7 K/9 for his career compared to Povich’s 6.8 and 8.5 marks.
Jake Irvin 4+ K (-140), Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals
Irvin is still only a week removed from a two-month stint on the injured list, and his first start back wasn’t too promising – five earned runs and one strikeout in 5.0 innings against the Braves. The Phillies own the second-lowest OPS+ in baseball, though, all while averaging the seventh-most strikeouts per game and sixth-most strikeouts per home game. That gives Irvin a chance to get back on track, considering how dependable of a strikeout machine he was pre-injury. He had gone 10-for-11 in recording four-plus strikeouts before hitting the shelf, after all, averaging 5.3 per appearance. That isn’t a very high bar, so even a partial return to form would signify a win for this bet.
Christian Scott 6+ K (+112), Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Mets
Dating all the way back to May 1, Scott has only thrown fewer than five strikeouts once in 14 tries. That’s a pretty high floor, and he has shown an ability to go beyond that pretty consistently as of late. The 27-year-old righty has gone for six-plus strikeouts in six of his last seven starts. Among pitchers with at least 65.0 innings under their belt this season, Scott ranks No. 5 with 11.0 K/9 – ahead of Cam Schlittler, Chris Sale, Kyle Harrison and Zack Wheeler, to name a few. The Guardians rank just barely in the bottom half of MLB with 8.28 strikeouts per game this season, fresh off striking out seven times in 6.0 innings against Sean Manaea on Tuesday. Manaea, for context, is only averaging 8.8 K/9.
