New York Yankees Over 2.5 Runs Through the First Five Innings
Odds: +105 | Opponent: Chicago White Sox
Noah Schultz continues to get hit hard and tonight has a tough matchup against the Yankees. He’s been one of the weak spots in the White Sox rotation, sporting a 6.04 ERA with an xERA of 6.07 and a 5.30 FIP. His command has been bad with a 4.6 BB/9 and when hitters are making contact, they’re generating a fly ball rate of 46%. This Yankees lineup is solid against lefties, with tonight’s expected hitters combining for a .337 wOBA and a .202 ISO.
Schultz hasn’t gone deep in the majority of his starts, pitching no more than five innings in nine of his 12 starts. In those nine starts, he’s allowed at least three runs seven times. With how good the Yankees have handled left-handed pitching, I like taking them to score at least three runs through the first five innings.
CJ Abrams 3+ H/R/RBI
Odds: +117 | Opponent: Toronto Blue Jays
Well, Max Scherzer is back again (for some reason) and draws a horrendous matchup against the Washington Nationals. Scherzer hasn’t pitched much at the major league level this season, only 22 total innings, but his numbers are extremely bad. Lefties, in particular, have been running the table with him. They’ve tagged Schezer for a .447 wOBA with a 9.75 FIP and six of the nine home runs he’s allowed. Scherzer’s fastball, which he’s thrown 47% of the time, isn’t fooling opposing hitters. They’ve tagged that for a .434 wOBA and three home runs. Abrams crushes that pitch and has a .457 wOBA and a .263 ISO against it.
Jack Perkins Under 14.5 Outs Recorded
Odds: +133 | Opponent: Boston Red Sox
I’m looking to take a shot here with Perkins to go under 14.5 outs recorded. Perkins was slotted into the starting rotation last month and it’s been a disaster. Through seven starts, Perkins owns a 7.67 ERA with a 5.32 FIP, a .379 wOBA and a 2.3 HR/9. Tonight, he’ll face the Red Sox in Sacramento, which is one of the best hitter’s parks in the league. The Red Sox are expected to be one of the highest-scoring teams of the night and carry a team total of 5.5 runs. Getting +133 on Perkins to go under 14.5 outs recorded is an appealing price.
