For the second straight week, a former UFC Champion will headline a Fight Night card! Last week’s Main Event featured two former champions, Dricus Du Plessis and Kamaru Usman, and now Magomed Ankalaev faces Bogdan Guskov. Like DDP, Ankalaev is trying to get back in the win column after losing his title. Originally, Ankalaev was slated to face Khalil Rountree Jr., but Bogdan Guskov stepped in after Rountree suffered an injury. Guskov was supposed to have a rematch with Jan Blachowicz but decided to take this matchup with Ankalaev instead.

Over 2.5 Rounds (+110)

On DraftKings Sportsbook, Ankalaev is a massive -550 favorite with Guskov being the underdog at +410. Although Guskov is a big underdog, he is much better than the odds suggest. Guskov is 18-3-1, with all 18 victories coming by finish. In his last fight, Guskov fought Jan Blachowicz, and it ended in a draw. Before that, Guskov won four straight fights in the UFC by finish. Guskov’s last win came against Nikita Krylov, and although he is a talented veteran, Ankalaev is a former champion.

Ankalaev realized his dream of becoming a UFC Champion at UFC 313 as he defeated Alex Pereira, but lost the rematch when “Poatan” scored a first-round knockout. That was Ankalaev’s first defeat since March 2018 and the first time he had been knocked out in his career. Following Ankalaev’s first loss against Paul Craig in 2018, he went on a 14-fight unbeaten streak afterward. 

With Ankalaev coming off his first loss in quite some time while Guskov had a draw in his last bout, neither of them could enter this contest a little more passive. Two of Ankalaev’s previous three fights have lasted at least three rounds. Also, five of Ankalaev’s last seven victories have come by decision. If Ankalaev displays his elite defense and frustrates Guskov, I see this fight going over 2.5 rounds. You can get the over at +110 in this contest.
