MLB Strikeout Prop Bets Breakdown
Gage Jump 5+ K (-104), Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Athletics
Jump has racked up 15 strikeouts over his last two starts, posting eight against a Nationals lineup that ranks No. 16 in strikeouts per game. The Diamondbacks present a tougher matchup, averaging the third-fewest strikeouts per game in MLB, but Jump has been pretty dependable in this market this season. Through his first 10 MLB starts, Jump has tossed five-plus strikeouts eight times, including six of his last seven. He recorded five against the Dodgers and nine against the Giants, both of whom are also top-six teams when it comes to limiting strikeouts from opposing pitchers. He did so against Los Angeles despite getting shelled for 11 hits, five earned runs and two homers, so his strikeout totals can be immune to spotty starts. And yet, Jump is now facing a Diamondbacks lineup that boasts the fourth-lowest OPS+ in baseball, so he could have a longer outing ahead of him – giving the southpaw more of a runway to rack up Ks.
Sandy Alcantara 5+ K (-159), Houston Astros vs. Miami Marlins
In his three starts this month, Alcantara has posted eight, eight and seven strikeouts. He has gone for five or more punchouts in seven of his last nine outings dating back to June 1. Alcantara has gotten a steady workload all season long, never facing fewer than 24 batters in any one outing. The 30-year-old owns a 2.93 ERA and 1.092 WHIP in that span, all while averaging 6.1 strikeouts per start. And while the Astros are a top-10 team when it comes to avoiding strikeouts on the whole this season, this contest is notably taking place in Houston. The Astros average 8.65 strikeouts per home game, which is the fifth-highest mark in baseball. Alcantara struck out five when he faced Houston last season, despite allowing nine hits and six earned runs. The former Cy Young winner has similar strikeout production at 7.0 K/9 – down from 7.3 K/9 in 2025 – so a similar outcome is certainly in the cards.
Reid Detmers 6+ K (-140), Los Angeles Angels vs. St. Louis Cardinals
Detmers has recorded at least six strikeouts in three of his last four and nine of his last 12 appearances. Even when he gave up five earned and three homers in a 4.0-inning start at Texas on July 9, the lefty still reached that threshold. He is also in the midst of his fourth consecutive season with at least 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings. The Cardinals pose a tough matchup from a strikeout perspective, averaging the fourth-fewest strikeouts per game. On the other hand, their lineup has struck out 12 times against Angels starters in the first two games of this series. Detmers also struck out six, seven and nine in road games against the Rays, Dodgers and Astros – all top-10 teams in limiting strikeouts in their own right.
