Arizona Diamondbacks Over 2.5 Runs Through the First Five Innings
Odds: -115 | Opponent: Athletics
It’s been a very rough stretch for Athletics starter Jeffrey Springs. Since June 1, he’s made seven starts and has a 10.34 ERA with a .455 wOBA and an 8.81 FIP over that span. He’s also allowed 14 of his 26 home runs during that stretch. It’s not going to get much easier tonight, when he faces off against a Diamondbacks lineup that could feature nine right-handed bats. Righties have tagged him for a .376 wOBA with a 6.43 FIP and 20 of the 26 home runs he’s allowed. With the way he’s pitching right now, I’m taking the D-Backs to score at least three runs through the first five innings. For what it’s worth, Springs earned run allowed line is currently set at 2.5 runs at -150 to the over.
Yordan Alvarez 3+ H/R/RBI
Odds: +101 | Opponent: Miami Marlins
It doesn’t take much analysis to back Yordan Alvarez in a matchup like this. But, I do like this matchup in particular against Janson Junk and the Marlins bullpen. Junk has allowed a .369 wOBA with a 4.14 FIP and five of the nine home runs he’s allowed to lefties on the season. He relies heavily on his four-seam fastball, which he’s throwing 46% of the time. That is the money pitch for Alvarez, who owns a .483 wOBA and a .400 ISO against that pitch this season.

Nick Martinez Under 16.5 Outs Recorded
Odds: -112 | Opponent: Toronto Blue Jays
Nick Martinez is going to get shelled soon. His ERA and expected metrics tell two very different stories, as he owns a 2.65 ERA and an xERA of 4.68. In his last start against the Blue Jays, which was back in May, he only allowed one run on five hits through five innings. However, his xERA of 4.59 tells a different story of how it should have gone. This will be his first start since the All-Star break and once again, luck was on the side of Martinez. With an outs total of 16.5, I’m comfortable taking the under here.
