This serves as the first episode since AEW Forbidden Door, which took place Sunday in San Jose, California. MJF (c) vs. Mark Briscoe – AEW World Championship Match
At AEW Forbidden Door, Mark Briscoe’s team was able to defeat MJF & The Don Callis Family in one of the best steel cage matches you’ll see. I would highly recommend going out of your way to watch this match, if you haven’t already. Because of that victory, Briscoe earned himself a shot at the AEW World Championship, and he’s wasting no time in using it. Not only that, this will open AEW Dynamite, as announced on the AEW X account.
These two have been involved in five matches overall in AEW but only two of them were singles matches. They’re tied 1-1 in singles competition, with Briscoe picking up the most recent win at AEW All Out in a Tables N’ Tacks match. MJF’s victory came on Dynamite last year in a match that went just under 18 minutes.
I, as well as most, are under the impression that Will Ospreay is on the road to his first AEW World Championship at All In. As I write this on Tuesday afternoon, we’re exactly two months away from that event, so a lot can happen between now and then. I don’t believe we’re heading toward a Briscoe-Ospreay showdown, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if Briscoe somehow sneaks a victory here, and then drops the title to someone like Kenny Omega at AEW Redemption. That said, I’m not sure AEW wants to have another short title reign like they did with Darby Allin. Don’t get me wrong, he crushed that short reign with his frequency of defenses and good matches. I don’t think they would run a similar story, again, with Briscoe.
With all that in mind, I do like the idea that a LOT can happen between now and All In. MJF is dropping the title between now and then (I think), it’s simply hard to figure out when. I don’t think it’s here tonight, but the chaos between now and All In keeps it interesting. If there is one thing AEW does well, is they keep us guessing, especially when we think we have it all figured out. I’m officially picking MJF to win but am ready to be wrong.
MJF (c) vs. Mark Briscoe Prediction: MJF retains the AEW World Championship
Maika vs. Harley Cameron vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Persephone vs. Kris Statlander vs. Queen Aminata – TBS Championship Survival of the Fittest
It’s taken until July for AEW to crown a new TBS Champion and we’ll get just that on Dynamite. Funny enough, reports have emerged that Willow Nightingale is set to return sometime this month. If I’m being honest, Nightingale could have easily kept the title, as we haven’t had a TBS Championship defense anyway. Nonetheless, everyone who qualified for this match over the past few weeks will be involved in this six-woman match.
This isn’t a one-fall match and has previously been used in Ring of Honor. The rules state that the last remaining competitor will become the TBS Champion. So, we’ll see five eliminations before crowning a winner. This match should also be a no disqualification match, which heightens the stakes even more.
As far as a winner, this match features a very deep field of women who all have reasons to win. Personally, I think this is an ideal time to crown Persephone as champion, and setting up the subsequent match against Nightingale. Personally, I’d love for Persephone to be crowned the winner and then immediately be confronted by Nightingale in her return.
