Chicago Cubs at New York Mets Over 4.5 Total Runs Through First Five Innings
Odds: -115
I think we’ll see a lot of runs early in this game between the Cubs and Mets. Edward Cabrera and Kodai Senga are scheduled tonight and both have been pitching poorly. Cabrera is having a horrific month of June, posting a 10.13 ERA with a .425 wOBA, a 7.97 FIP, and six of the 14 home runs he’s allowed. Senga, who was just reinstated from the IL last week, allowed four runs on two hits, both which were home runs, and four walks through four innings in his return. Senga has struggled in almost every start he’s made and in the minors, when he was making his rehab starts. Before being reinstated, Senga threw 18 innings and had a 4.00 ERA with an xERA of 5.31 with a 4.91 FIP. With numbers like these for both starters, it’s hard to imagine that we won’t see a lot of offense early.
Jackson Chourio 2+ Total Bases
Odds: -116 | Opponent: Cincinnati Reds
Nick Lodolo has been abysmal, there is no other way to describe it. Through eight starts and 42.2 innings, he owns a 6.12 ERA with an xERA of 6.65 and a 5.79 FIP. His strikeouts are way down, as his 6.7 K/9 is well below his 9.7 career average. He’s been putting traffic on the bases with a 3.5 BB/9, which normally isn’t a concern but he’s been no higher than 2.8 over the last three years. This puts Chourio in a great spot, as he has fantastic numbers against lefties. Chourio owns a .398 wOBA with a .229 ISO and a 156 wRC+. The Brewers are expected to be one of the highest scoring teams of the evening, with a team total of 5.5 runs, so I like the chances of Chourio being part of that with his numbers against lefties.

San Francisco Giants Team Total over 4.5 Runs
Odds: -110 | Opponent: Athletics
The Giants will face Aaron Civale tonight in San Francisco. After a solid start to the season, Civale has been getting wrecked lately. He returned to the mound last week for the first time in almost a month and was greeted by six runs on nine hits through three innings against the Pirates. It marked the third straight start that Civale has allowed at least five runs, doing so against the Mariners and Angels. Now he’ll face the Giants, who are averaging over five runs over their last five games.
Civale has a tough matchup against a Giants lineup that can go very left-handed heavy. Against lefties, Civale owns a .415 wOBA, a 6.40 FIP and eight of the 12 home runs he’s allowed. The Giants should have a minimum of five lefties in the lineup tonight, which will make tonight difficult for Civale. Once he departs, he’ll give way to an Athletics bullpen that’s been extremely ineffective as of late. Over the past week, they’ve combined for 26 innings and have a 7.62 ERA with a 7.02 FIP and a 3.4 HR/9.
