2026 FIFA World Cup: Portugal vs. Uzbekistan Recap, Updated Group K Standings
Portugal Defeats Uzbekistan 5-0: Match Recap
Portugal cruised past Uzbekistan 5-0 in Group K play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday in Houston, Texas, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice and Rafael Leão adding a late fifth to give the Portuguese a commanding victory.
Ronaldo silenced any doubters with a brace in the opening 39 minutes, opening the scoring in the 6th minute before finishing off a Bruno Fernandes through ball in the 39th to double his tally. The +210 pre-match odds to find the net twice proved well-founded, with the 41-year-old looking sharp throughout the first half. Nuno Mmoendes added a third in the 17th minute with a well-taken free kick to put the match well beyond Uzbekistan’s reach before halftime.
Uzbekistan had a goal disallowed in the second half for a foul in the build-up, and any hope of a consolation was further dashed when an Abduvohid Nematov own goal made it 4-0 in the 60th minute. Leão rounded out the scoring in the 87th minute, finishing off a deflected pass from Semedo to cap a dominant team performance.
This was a controlled, professional display from a Portuguese side that entered the tournament at pre-tournament odds of +800 to win it all, and they look every bit that capable.
2026 World Cup Updated Group K Standings
- Portugal (1-1-0) 4 points
- Colombia (1-0-0) 3 points

2026 FIFA World Cup: England vs. Ghana Recap, Updated Group L Standings
England and Ghana Draw 0-0: Match Recap
England were held to a goalless draw by Ghana in Group L play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday in Foxborough, Massachusetts, in a frustrating result for Thomas Tuchel’s side despite controlling the match from start to finish.
England generated 19 shots to Ghana’s two, but the final touch repeatedly let them down. Tuchel’s direct, possession-based system created plenty of openings, but Ghana’s backline stayed disciplined and made life difficult in the box.
The closest England came was in the 86th minute when Nico O’Reilly connected with a Reece James cross and rattled the crossbar. Marc Guehi then had a header cleared off the line in stoppage time, summing up England’s afternoon perfectly. Ghana’s best opportunity arrived in the 79th minute when Adu was slipped through one-on-one with Jordan Pickford, but Ezri Konsa tracked back to make a crucial challenge and keep the clean sheet intact.
Tuchel turned to his bench in the 73rd minute, bringing on Rogers and Eze for Bellingham and Anderson, and Rashford came on for Madueke ten minutes later, but the changes could not unlock Ghana’s defense. England and Ghana both sit on four points in Group L heading into their final group stage fixtures, with the Lions needing a result to secure their place in the next round.
2026 World Cup Updated Group L Standings
- England (1-1-0) 4 points
- Ghana (1-1-0) 4 points
- Croatia (1-0-1) 3 points
- Panama (0-0-2) 0 points
2026 FIFA World Cup: Panama vs. Croatia Recap, Updated Group L: Standings
Croatia Defeats Panama 1-0: Match Recap
Croatia took down Panama 1-0 in Group L play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday at Toronto Stadium in Toronto, with Ante Budimir’s 54th-minute strike proving the difference as the Croatians kept their knockout stage hopes very much alive.
Croatia controlled the better part of the match and built the superior chances. Budimir broke the deadlock nine minutes into the second half, finishing to give Croatia the lead they had been working toward.
Panama grew into the match and made things uncomfortable late on. Harvey had a golden chance in the 80th minute from a corner but struck the side netting, and Livakovic was called into action multiple times to preserve the clean sheet. Croatia also left points on the table, with Pasalic squandering a one-on-one opportunity in the 57th minute after Mosquera’s initial save rebounded his way.
The result eliminates Panama from the tournament and moves Croatia to three points heading into their final group stage match. With England and Ghana both sitting on four points, the Croatians will need a win in their final fixture and some help elsewhere to advance.
2026 World Cup Updated Group L Standings
- England (1-1-0) 4 points
- Ghana (1-1-0) 4 points
- Croatia (1-0-1) 3 points
