Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner exited Monday’s game against the Miami Marlins early.

Turner left the game during the eighth inning. His departure is likely due to a possible injury from being hit in the right wrist by a pitch earlier in the evening.

Turner went 0-for-3 in Monday’s game prior to departing, reaching base once on the HBP.

The veteran shortstop is slashing just .219/.269/.330 this season for a .598 OPS, by far the worst of his career. He’s recorded an OPS of .800 or better in all but one campaign since 2019, so the drop-off in production is notable and concerning. Turner has 63 hits, 41 runs. 21 RBI and seven homers.

The Phillies held a 5-0 lead over the Marlins when Turner left. Prior to the conclusion of the contest, they’re second in the NL East at 38-33, eight games shy of the Atlanta Braves.
