The New York Knicks gave the San Antonio Spurs hope in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday, blowing a seven-point halftime lead to lose, 115-11. The Knicks should still have the upper hand in the series overall, as they’re still up 2-1 and could send San Antonio to the brink with a win tonight.
Game 4 will begin tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET at a raucous Madison Square Garden. If New York wins, it’ll need another big performance from OG Anunoby, who had 28 points on Monday night, including a late three-pointer to bring the Knicks back within two with nine seconds to play.
New York is a 2.5-point favorite for tonight’s pivotal clash at DraftKings Sportsbook, with the total set to 216.5. Below, I’ve detailed my favorite prop bets centered around the Knicks’ silent assassin.
OG Anunoby Best Prop Bets for NBA Finals Game 4
- OG Anunoby 17+ Points (-114): This is relatively safe, given that Anunoby has scored at least 17 points in each of his last five games and 12 of his 15 postseason games so far. He also has a much easier defensive assignment (Devin Vassell) than either Jalen Brunson (Stephon Castle) or Karl-Anthony Towns (Victor Wembanyama).
- OG Anunoby 3+ Three-Pointers Made (+136): Anunoby made three triples in both Games 1 and 3, and he also made at least three in 29 of the 45 games in which he scored at least 17 points. The Spurs give up plenty of makeable triples because their rim protection is so effective.
Best OG Anunoby Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook
OG Anunoby 17+ Points (-114)
New York’s relatively egalitarian offense means that anyone’s capable of being the second-leading scorer on any given night, but Anunoby is a relatively consistent option. Mikal Bridges’ scoring has waxed and waned (he scored 20 points in Game 2 and just two in Game 3), and Karl-Anthony Towns has also had a more passive role on offense sometimes. Anunoby, meanwhile, has scored at least 17 points in each of his last five games, in 12 of his 15 playoff games overall, and in 33 of his 67 regular season games. If anything, his role could even expand, as small-ball lineups with Anunoby at center have become a feature of Mike Brown’s offense as of late.
The Spurs aren’t quite deep enough defensively to slow down all of the Knicks’ offensive options. Stephon Castle has done a good job slowing down Jalen Brunson, limiting him to five-for-16 shooting so far this series, and Towns obviously has an exceptionally difficult matchup in unanimous Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama. After that, though, San Antonio’s defensive options get somewhat less fearsome; while both Castle and Wembanyama ranked in or near the top decile in points saved per 100 possessions during the regular season, Anunoby’s assignment, Devin Vassell, ranked in just the 74th percentile in that stat. Vassell also ranked in just the 20th percentile in stop percentage.
OG Anunoby 3+ Three-Pointers Made (+136)
Anunoby made a trio of triples in both Games 1 and 3, and he’s shot the ball unbelievably these playoffs, posting 57-47-86 shooting splits and ranking fourth in three-point percentage over expectation for the postseason as a whole. New York has needed to play a lot of five-out lineups and stretch the floor to bait Wembanyama away from the paint.
The Spurs give up a lot of threes, giving up the most corner threes, the fifth-most wide-open threes, and the sixth-most catch-and-shoot threes per game so far these playoffs. The Knicks have attempted two more wide-open threes across the first three games, and Anunoby (one-for-five on such shots so far this series) is bound for some improvement. Whether San Antonio opts to leave Brunson, Anunoby, Towns, Bridges, or Landry Shamet open, all of its options are bad; so far these playoffs, Brunson has shot 42.9% on wide-open threes, Towns 52.2%, Shamet 48.1%, Bridges 52.6%, and Anunoby 50.0%.
This is also partially contingent on the first prop. Between the regular season and the playoffs, Anunoby has scored at least 17 points 45 times, and in those games, he’s made at least three triples 29 times. By contrast, there were only four occasions this season in which he made at least three threes and did not end up scoring 17 points.
