The 2026 FIFA World Cup has finally arrived, and Group A will get us started on the opening day with Mexico taking on South Africa, followed by South Korea taking on Czechia.

The former Tottenham and current Los Angeles FC forward might be in the twilight of his career, but what a career it was. He’s 33 years old now, and this might be his last World Cup appearance. Son will certainly want to end his historic international career on a high, and he has a chance to do so on the first night of the tournament. He was tied for second in Asian qualifying for the tournament with 10 goals, as only Qatar’s Almoez Ali scored more times with 12 goals. Son scored 12 times in 13 games in 2025 for LAFC, but has failed to score in 2026. This, however, is a much brighter stage than the MLS. He has a chance to continue his status as a national hero and has already netted three World Cup goals in his career. If South Korea gets on the scoresheet in this one, look no further than their star man.
Patrik Schick (+235)
Schick scored 16 times in the Bundesliga last season for Bayer Leverkusen and 22 goals in all competitions. Any time your striker hits 20+ goals for a season, you’ll take it. He was also the leading scorer for Czechia in their UEFA qualifying group, netting five times in eight matches. Schick has still got it at 30 years old, and is coming off a 27 goal season the year before. All he does is score goals, and that’s who Czechia will be relying on in this one. I expect him to play the full 90 minutes in this one, and hopefully, he will find the back of the net.
