BREAK IT DOWN:
(Stats taken from DraftKings Sportsbook’s Stats Hub)
Juan Soto 1+ Home Run (+303): The public is backing Soto to go yard again on Monday night, continuing his recent homer binge. Soto has 13 long balls in his 42 games this season, but nine of those home runs have come in his last 15 games. He hit a grand slam on Sunday to close out May and had three homers in the Mets’ five-game home stand. On Monday night, he’ll be on the road in Seattle, taking on righty Emerson Hancock. Hancock has allowed eight homers in his 11 outings this season, and lefties like Soto have five of those eight home runs. Soto has a 54.2% hard-hit rate and 18.8% barrel rate over those 15 games, so he’s not hitting any cheap shots. If he keeps making such strong contact on Monday night, he could deliver another win for the public backing him in Seattle.
James Wood 1+ Home Run (+322): Wood succeeded Soto as a power-hitting lefty in the Nationals’ lineup, and the 23-year-old has 16 homers on the year. He also went yard on Sunday and has three homers in his last six games while going 10-for-23 (.435) with a .586 wOBA and 70.6% hard-hit rate. In those six games, he has five barrels, a 29.4% barrel rate and an average exit velocity of 99.4 miles per hour. Wood will look to keep mashing as the Nationals continue their homestand by welcoming in the Marlins. Sandy Alcantara starts for Miami, and Wood is 2-for-6 with a double but no homers in their past meetings. The veteran righty has allowed nine homers in his 12 starts this season, including seven to lefties like Wood. He has allowed five homers in 11 2/3 innings over his two most recent starts against the Braves and Blue Jays, so Wood could be in a good spot to keep crushing on Monday.
Byron Buxton 1+ Home Run (+270): Like Wood, Buxton is a power hitter who typically hits in the leadoff spot for his team. Buxton smashed a leadoff dinger against David Sandlin last week in Chicago, crushing the second pitch he saw 417 feet to centerfield. Sandlin settled in after that, but Buxton will look to get to him again on Monday as the rookie makes his second straight start against Minnesota to start his career. Buxton has 17 homers on the season, 12 of which came in his last 25 games. He has an impressive 22.7% barrel rate over that span and a 48% hard-hit rate. He has hit 16 of those 17 homers against righties this year, and 10 of the 17 homers have come in his 23 home games. With the splits tilted in his favor, Buxton makes a solid play against Sandlin as the Twins host the White Sox after Chicago took three of four games against them last week.
