Fonseca proved that he has the game to win major titles, and now he should have that confidence in himself as well.
For Casper Ruud, it was a battle of wills against the American, Tommy Paul. Paul and Ruud are two incredibly talented players who have made amazing livings playing the game of tennis over the past decade. My best bet is on this match to go over 37.5 games. These two players will both be feeling the physical and emotional fatigue of their Friday matches. That could lead to a bit of a sluggish start. At this level, that typically means the player failing to break. That should lead to these two trading service games over the first couple of sets. It should be a tight battle between the two players and could be another five-setter. My official pick is for Ruud to win the match in four sets, with all four sets being tight. Ruud has an incredible chance to make his third career Roland-Garros final and this time, win the title at long last. That starts with taking care of Fonseca here, but the youngster won’t go down without a fight.
Iga Swiatek vs. Marta Kostyuk: Swiatek to win 2:0 (-115)
Iga Swiatek is playing like the queen of clay once again. Swiatek was going through arguably the worst form of her career, but she has righted the ship in recent weeks. She has won each of her first three matches here at Roland-Garros in two sets. She is also coming off a trip to the semi-finals in Rome prior to the French Open. Swiatek should keep that momentum going against Marta Kostyuk.
These two have faced off three times over the years. Swiatek has not only won all three meetings but has done so in two sets each time. Kostyuk has been playing fantastic tennis this clay season, but Swiatek seems to be on an unstoppable roll at the moment. Swiatek should take care of business in straight sets and move on to the quarter-finals.
