Following a strong eleventh episode that sent home both show legend Ozzy Lusth and Emily Flippen, Survivor 50 returned Wednesday night with the penultimate installment of the show’s most anticipated season yet. Including spoilers for who was voted out, let’s recap Survivor 50 Episode 12: Inconceivable.
Survivor 50 Episode 12 Recap
The Idol Hunting Babysitter
Back on the beach, Cirie was left reeling after finding out about a) the Ozzy blindside and b) the fact that he had laid out his entire plan to Aubry like a Bond villain. Meanwhile, Jonathan paraded around the beach boasting about how he orchestrated the Ozzy blindside. As one would expect, Aubry (who really played the most pivotal role in the move alongside Rizo) took notice, seemingly adding another name to her list of threats to eliminate. After a slow start to the game, the ultra strategist started to pick up some momentum.
The next morning, Devens began one of his classic idol hunts, with Jonathan (quite literally) on his tail. In a surprising twist, we witnessed a rare Joe-Devens bonding moment, as the former put aside their beef momentarily to comfort Rick, who was left emotional given his failure in the idol search and current standing within the tribe.
We were then treated to a very early immunity challenge in the form of a Survivor balance block classic. With his back potentially against the wall, Devens came up short, as Joe earned immunity and a trip to the final six.
The Man, The Myth, The Dilemma
At the reward, Rizo openly pondered whether he should play his idol just to be safe, or risk holding onto it. While a RIZGOD blindside didn’t appear to be a real possibility, back on the beach Tiffany started throwing it around in an attempt to flush said idol. The vote had some supporters, but Cirie and Aubry had reasons to keep Rizo around.
We were then treated to an early tribal council, signaling that two players will be going home in this penultimate episode. Rick openly declared his imminent exit, while Rizo acknowledged hearing his name thrown around. Finally, it was time to vote to see if Devens’ demise was truly a ruse. Before the votes were read, Devens played his shot in the dark… unsuccessfully. Ultimately, Rick became the first person eliminated in Survivor 50 Episode 12.
On To The Next One
After failing to flush his idol, Tiffany pushed even further to eliminate Rizo at the next tribal. Unfortunately, she began to paint quite the target on her back for doing so. Her plans made it back to Rizo, who began scheming of his own.
We then got right back to the action with a second immunity challenge. In an intriguing twist, Jonathan, Joe, Rizo and Aubry worked together to solve the word puzzle at the end. The two challenge beasts knew the word but were initially unable to spell it, opening the door for Tiffany, who beat the odds to secure immunity with her back against the wall.
With Tiffany off the table and Rizo almost certainly playing his idol, the tribe then scrambled to assess their remaining options. For Aubry, an obvious name emerged: Cirie. She conferred with Rizo, who attempted to figure out how to dance around the Survivor legend and pull the blindside together. Being the social expert she is, Cirie picked up on everything, and planted the seeds for an Aubry blindside. The tribe scattered to figure out which threat loomed larger, then headed to tribal.
At tribal council, the group acknowledged that everyone was aware of the potential paths forward. Which path would be taken, however, was yet to be determined. Taking a risk, Rizo did not play his idol. In the end, the risk paid off, as Survivor legend Cirie was voted out, eliminating a monumental threat from the game.
