Atlanta Braves over 4.5 runs (-115) vs. Los Angeles Angels
Yusei Kikuchi will be taking the hill for the Angels tonight and brings with him two poor starts to begin 2026. Through 9.2 innings, he owns a 6.52 ERA with an xERA of 5.23 and a 4.42 FIP. Walks have been an early issue as well, issuing five in those starts. Kikuchi mainly throws a four-seam fastball, and that is a pitch the Braves handle very well. Dating back to last season, tonight’s expected lineup has a combined .368 wOBA with a .220 ISO when it’s thrown by a lefty. To take it even further, the top five hitters expected each have at least a .350 wOBA against that pitch.
When Kikuchi departs, he’ll give way to a bullpen that has been putting a lot of traffic on the base paths. They currently have a BB/9 of 5.6 through 41.1 innings, which is one of the highest in the league. The Braves have been very selective at the plate and have one of the lowest K% thus far. This should be a great spot for Atlanta in what should be one of the best weather games on tonight’s slate.
Houston Astros vs. Colorado Rockies over 5.5 runs through first five innings (-125)
This game should feature a lot of offense early with Mike Burrows and Kyle Freeland on the mound. Burrows has been a mixed bag, with a poor start against the Angels but a good one against the Red Sox. Obviously, he’s in the worst pitching environment tonight in Colorado and, to their credit, the Rockies have been hitting well. The Rockies come into tonight averaging four runs per game, which is solid for a team many have pegged to be one of the worst in the league.
On the Astros side, they’ll face Freeland, who has a 2.89 ERA with an xERA of 5.20. Don’t let his surface numbers fool you, as he should have been hit much harder against the Blue Jays and Marlins than it shows. The Astros have been the highest-scoring team in the league and are currently averaging seven runs per game. While the sample size is small and will change as we move along, the Astros also have the highest average of runs scored through the first five innings at 3.6.
Nathan Eovaldi under 17.5 outs recorded (+117) vs. Seattle Mariners
I was a bit surprised that this outs total is set as high as it is. At least from what we’ve seen in the early going, Eovaldi has been getting hit very hard in his two starts. His bloated 11.42 ERA is accompanied by a 5.84 xERA, which is a big difference but still not good at all. The most alarming stat is the hard-hit rate allowed. When hitters are making contact, Eovaldi has allowed a massive 57% hard-hit rate. As you’d imagine, Eovaldi has not gone deep in either of his starts, logging no more than 4.2 innings in either start.
So I was surprised that tonight his outs total has him going six innings. I’ll take the under on his outs total against a Mariners team that’s been very patient at the plate, posting a 10.8% BB%.
