SP Max Fried, New York Yankees vs. Miami Marlins ($9,000)
When the Yankees signed Max Fried to a massive contract ahead of the 2025 campaign, there was no telling just how important he would become. After Gerrit Cole underwent Tommy John surgery, the former Braves southpaw stepped in as New York’s interim ace — and delivered in every sense of the word. Fried recorded a 2.86 ERA, 3.07 FIP, 1.10 WHIP, and an MLB-leading 19 wins across 32 starts (195.1 IP) in 2025. He ended the season ranking in the league’s 94th percentile in pitching run value.
And he’s picked up right where he left off.
Fried, 32, has been electric through his first two starts of 2026, tossing 13.1 shutout innings with 10 strikeouts and just two walks across road matchups with the Giants and Mariners. Even against a formidable Marlins young core, the red-hot, crafty veteran remains the top pitching play on Sunday’s afternoon slate.
OF Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres at Boston Red Sox ($5,300)
Fenway Park is a nightmare for lefty pitchers. The historic Green Monster is only 310 feet down the left-field line, meaning any ball lifted in that direction can easily become a double or a home run. Thus, it’s curious that the Red Sox this offseason pursued another southpaw in free agency — landing former Phillies star Ranger Suarez.
Suarez, 30, is coming off an impressive run in Philadelphia, capped by a scorching 2025 when he posted a 3.20 ERA across 26 starts (157.1 innings), ranked in MLB’s top 90th percentile in pitching run value, and kept loud contact to a premium. But his Red Sox tenure got off to a rocky start — coughing up four earned runs on seven hits (two home runs) over 4.1 frames in an 8–1 loss to the Astros in Houston.
Those numbers, and that ballpark, seem to foreshadow a breezy day at the office for superstar outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. While the righty slugger has gotten off to a slow start this season, he’s coming off an impressive 2025 in which he mashed 25 home runs — followed by an electric run with the Dominican Republic in the WBC. The three-time All-Star has also had Suarez’s number over the years, going 4-for-13 (.308) with an RBI in his career against the southpaw.
1B/3B Sal Stewart, Cincinnati Reds at Texas Rangers ($4,000)
Cincinnati’s top prospect, Sal Stewart, is legit. The 22-year-old corner infielder showed as much during his 2025 September call-up, hitting .255 with an .839 OPS and five home runs in 55 at-bats. Just eight games into this season, the righty slugger has already underscored that he won’t be a “value play” for much longer.
So far in 2026, Stewart has hit .407 with an out-of-this-world 1.270 OPS, two home runs, four RBIs, and five runs scored. The young righty hasn’t shied away from same-side pitching, either: one of his homers and three of his RBIs came against right-handers. Stewart also heads into Sunday after a strong start to the weekend, going 2-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday’s 2–0 win over the Rangers.
The budding All-Star should continue teeing off against Texas right-hander Jack Leiter. While the 25-year-old starter posted a respectable 3.86 ERA across 29 starts (151.2 innings) in 2025, his underlying metrics — 4.45 xERA, 43.9% hard-hit rate, and 37.8% ground-ball rate — indicate some serious luck. While Leiter started the season strong against the Orioles, his under-the-hood numbers suggest he’s no match for the surging Stewart.
