Kupp flies the coop, lands in Seattle
After playing his first eight seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, the team cut him this past offseason. He had two seasons of over 1,000 yards in 2019 and 2021, and he was one of the top fantasy players in the entire league in 2021 when he hauled in 145 passes in 17 games for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns during the Rams’ regular season. In the postseason, he racked up 33 catches for 478 yards and six touchdowns in four games as the Rams claimed the Super Bowl title. In that Super Bowl, Kupp had eight catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
While the 32-year-old veteran has a proven track record of postseason and regular-season success, he’s battled multiple injuries over the last few years. He only played nine games in 2022 and 12 games in 2023 and 2024. This year, after heading from L.A. to its division rivals in Seattle, he played 16 games, hauling in 47 catches for 593 yards and two touchdowns.
The emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba as an elite option and the midseason acquisition of Rashid Shaheed pushed Kupp down the depth chart, but in the playoffs, Sam Darnold went back to his reliable weapon in the last two weeks. Against the 49ers, Kupp caught five passes for 60 yards, and in the NFC Championship, he caught four passes for 36 yards and this touchdown against his former team.
Kupp’s Super Bowl Matchup
Kupp will face the Patriots’ secondary that has been very solid this season, but it has also been beatable in some matchups. While they do rank in the top 10 in fewest fantasy points allowed per game to the position, the Patriots defense gave up 20 touchdowns to the position this season, including three touchdowns in their last four games.
Last week, Courtland Sutton scored against them before the snowstorm rolled into Denver, and two rounds ago, when they faced the Texans, Christian Kirk found the end zone.
Cooper Kupp Fantasy Outlook
Kupp has a $5,200 salary in a FLEX spot and a $7,800 salary as a Captain’s Pick. Using him in your Captain’s Pick spot could pay off if he finds the end zone again, and he would also leave lots of salary cap space to fill in stars in the rest of your FLEX spots. However, that strategy is definitely high-risk, since Kupp’s fantasy production has been inconsistent.
Kupp had 11.0 and 13.6 fantasy points in his team’s two playoff wins, but before that, he was held under 10 fantasy points in nine of his last 10 regular-season games. He only had one or two catches in several of those games and only had one game with more than three catches after the addition of Shaheed.
He’s definitely a reliable option that Darnold can lean on in this big spot, but he will have to get a touchdown if you slot him in as Captain. As a FLEX play, though, he’s one of the better cheap plays since he will likely get at least a few catches. Sam Darnold still has his doubters, but if he’s able to step up, Kupp could be a great goal-line option and produce a nice final stat line.

Kupp is an affordable FLEX play that brings solid upside. The fact that he has performed so well on this stage before and has gotten more looks in the last few games is a great sign that he could return good value at this affordable salary.
