Jawhar Jordan ($5,000) hadn’t played a snap this season, but with Nick Chubb ($5,100) inactive with a rib injury and Woody Marks ($6,600) exiting the game early with an ankle injury this past Sunday vs. the Cardinals, Jordan was given a chance and he seized the moment.
The former sixth-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft rushed 15 times for 101 yards — making him the first Texans’ player to rush for 100+ yards this season — and Jordan caught both of his targets for 17 yards, resulting in 16.8 FPTS. While logging 41.8% of the snaps, Jordan averaged 6.7 YPC, he forced five missed tackles and he had an impressive 50-yard run in the 40-20 win for Houston.
Jordan has been a practice squad player for the Texans this season, but following his breakout performance in Week 15, Houston signed Jordan to the active roster on Monday. Getting the back on the active roster was a no-brainer for the Texans and the move could very well mean that the team anticipates that they could be shorthanded in the backfield again this Sunday vs. the Raiders.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans told the media Marks could have reentered the game last week, so he feels likely to play, but that doesn’t mean Marks won’t be limited in this matchup with a lowly 2-12 Las Vegas team. Plus, Chubb could be inactive again, as the veteran was only able to get one limited practice session in last week before missing the game vs. the Cardinals.
All in all, with Marks and Chubb’s statuses currently up in the air, grabbing Jordan off the waiver wire makes sense. Yes, he could end up having no value if both Marks and Chubb are active this weekend, but if either of those players are inactive or limited this Sunday, Jordan could be in line for 10+ touches, giving him solid upside vs. a Raiders’ defense that is the worst graded unit on PFF this season. Also, if Jordan continues to perform well this weekend, he could earn himself even more work for next week’s matchup vs. the Chargers, which is the fantasy football championship for most leagues.
