SMU is riding high off an overtime victory at home over Miami, in a game the Mustangs were very fortunate to win. Now they have to come out east to play Boston College, who has just a 1-8 record, but has hung tough in some games. The Eagles are 2-3 ATS at home, coming off a game in which they competed with Notre Dame in what wound up a 25-10 loss. That said, BC was never in doubt when it came to covering the game, as was the case a week early as a sizable underdog against Louisville.
SMU is just 1-3 ATS on the road, and we just saw it play in a similar situation. A couple of weeks ago, the Mustangs lost outright at Wake Forrest, with a lookahead spot to that Miami game at home. Now they are in a sleepy spot out east for a noon kick against a one-win team with a home game against Louisville on deck following a bye.
This is more of a situational handicap on Boston College. If the Eagles play with the same fight they have in the past two games against ranked opponents, they should be able to catch SMU off guard here. BC also has an ace up its sleeve for this game as well, as it’ll be the Red Bandana game in Chestnut Hill.
For those unfamiliar with the Red Bandana game, it’s an annual tradition at Alumni Stadium. The game honors a former student, Welles Crowther, who lost his life attempting to rescue others on 9/11. Boston College always takes this game extremely seriously, as does the fanbase, which should give the Eagles a boost at home here.
CFB Pick: Boston College +10.5 (-112)
