MLB Odds & Storylines
The day kicks off at 3:08 p.m. ET with the Tigers taking on the Guardians. The odds are practically even in on DraftKings Sportsbook for this one, with the Tigers listed at -107 and Guardians at -113 on the moneyline. Detroit’s Jack Flaherty will be making his 10th career postseason start and he owns a career postseason record of just 2-5 with a 5.36 ERA. Flaherty has also struggled against Cleveland this season with an 0-3 record and 3.94 ERA. One the plus side, he will have first baseman Spencer Torkelson behind him and hitting cleanup despite battling a foot injury. Torkelson and Tigers will face Slade Cecconi. Tigers bats are 9-for-38 (.237) against Cecconi with three home runs. If you’re looking for some parlays to ponder, Steve Buchanan has plays for each side as well as HRs and Hits + Runs +RBI options in his Tigers vs. Guardians Parlay Picks article.
Next up, the Padres and the Cubs take the field at Wrigley at 5:08 p.m. ET. Once again, the odds are practically even on DraftKings Sportsbook, with the Cubs listed at -116 and the Padres at -105 on the moneyline. Former Cub Yu Darvish takes the hill for San Diego, and he enters 5-7 with a 3.77 ERA in postseason action. Jameson Taillon starts for Chicago and Padres bats are 30-for-110 (.273) vs. Taillon with three home runs. Taillon factors into Bryan Armetta’s favorite player props for Padres-Cubs Game 3, as he thinks his strikeout number — 3+ strikeouts (-113) — is way too low to ignore. He is also eying Jackson Merrill 2+ total bases (+125), noting that over his last 20 games, Merrill slashed .309/.349/.704 with seven home runs and 16 RBIs.
The slate closes with Red Sox vs. Yankees in the Bronx at 8:08 p.m. ET. We’ve got a matchup between two rookies — Connelly Early for Boston and Cam Schlittler for the Yankees — and New York opens as the favorite (-164) on DraftKings Sportsbook with the over/under set at 7.5 runs. Early is set to become the first pitcher to ever start a winner-take-all postseason game within 30 days of his MLB debut, so it comes as no surprise that Bryan Armetta likes Giancarlo Stanton 2+ hits + runs + RBIs (+119) as one of his favorite player props in this one. Bryan thinks Early should have success against some of New York’s left-handed hitters, but an imposing righty such as Stanton could cause problems. If you want some action on the Sox side, Bryan offers up Alex Bregman 1+ walks (+160). Bregman is a certified Yankee killer and in addition to going 3-for-7 with a double and an RBI, he’s also earned a walk in both games of this series.
