FSU Seminoles vs. Virginia Cavaliers prediction, picks CFB Week 5

Virginia has proven it can come out and score some points, averaging 45.5 points through four games with Chandler Morris under center this season. The Cavaliers have gone for 48-plus in all three home games (all wins), and scored 31 on the road in a narrow loss to NC State. Sure, FSU presents much tougher competition for the Cavs, but this will be the Seminoles first road trip of the season.

Not only does FSU have to make its first road trip of the season on a short week for a Friday night nationally televised game, but it’s also likely looking ahead to a massive in-state conference game against Miami next week. The Hurricanes rank No. 2 in the country, and the Seminoles have almost certainly started preparing for that one. Meanwhile, this is the game Virginia has been looking forward too, and if FSU doesn’t match the intensity, it could be in some trouble.

Thomas Castellanos may be a little dinged up, and a Friday night road atmosphere on a short week won’t help. Can Virginia’s defense answer the call at home and slow this FSU offense down? Probably not completely, but I do expect the Seminoles to hit some speed bumps in their first true road game. This is the ultimate sell-high spot on FSU, based on some early and unexpected accomplishments.

Look for a strong effort from UVA in the Friday night underdog role. I think the Cavs can keep it tight.

CFB Pick: Virginia +7 (-110)
