This is a monster game for the Cornhuskers, who are going on years since their last ranked win. The preseason number on the game was Nebraska +3.5, which would be good enough for a bet in my mind. But the spread opened 2.5 this week and has been ticking down, despite a majority of the tickets coming in on Big Blue. That indicates the sharper money has been coming in on the home underdog.
I like the idea of fading Michigan on the road, and did so in its first away game at Oklahoma. The Sooners controlled the game wire-to-wire, but I have a lot more faith in OU than I do Nebraska. I want to believe in the Cornhuskers, but they looked shaky in a Week 1 win on a neutral field over Cincinnati as a near touchdown favorite. While Nebraska has steam rolled lesser competition since then, the game against Cincy is really the only real measuring stick we have, and it wasn’t great.
This is the stage the Cornhuskers have been waiting for, and we’re going to learn a lot about them on Saturday afternoon. Bryce Underwood struggled most of the game at Oklahoma, but he now has a game in a tough road atmosphere under his belt. Not to mention, this Nebraska defense is nothing close to what Oklahoma is.
Michigan will remain a fade or pass for me on the road throughout the season. Memorial Stadium will be ready to rock, and make things as difficult on the Wolverines as possible. However, in this spot I’m not sure I can ultimately trust this Nebraska team to breakthrough. It’s Cornhuskers or pass for me.
