Goedert saw excellent usage when healthy last season. In the 13 games the tight end didn’t exit with an injury, Goedert was targeted on 22% of his routes – including 10 redzone targets and four targets over 20 yards – while running a route on 76% of his team’s dropbacks.
Goedert produced 11.7 FPTS per game and he scored double-digit FPTS in seven of these 13 games, most notably with a 30-FPTS explosion vs. the Saints in Week 3. Among tight ends, Goedert ranked second in YPPR (2.18) – trailing only George Kittle – and Goedert ranked eighth in FPTS per snap (0.24).
The Eagles have nearly the same exact offense personnel wise as last year’s Super Bowl winning group. While Philadelphia did lose offensive coordinator Kellen Moore this offseason, they promoted passing game coordinator and associate head coach Kevin Patullo to offensive coordinator. Given this was an internal promotion, the Eagles’ offense figures to remain a very similar system to last year, and Goedert should continue see excellent usage as Philadelphia’s starting tight end.
For Week 1, Goedert is facing a Cowboys’ defense that limited tight ends to the seventh-fewest FPTS per game last season (10.6). That being said, Dallas’ pass defense was very weak overall, giving up the third-most yards per pass (7.2) and Goedert finished with 10.5 FPTS when he faced the Cowboys in Week 10.
Plus, Dallas figures to be a zone heavy defense this season under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. Eberflus was the Bears’ head coach last season and under him, Chicago used zone coverage at the third-highest rate in the NFL.
The Eagles boast a huge 28.5-point implied team total for Thursday night on DraftKings Sportsbook – which is the highest implied team of Week 1 – and Goedert is a rock solid tight end option for Week 1 that has a great chance to reach double-digit FPTS.
