Toledo Rockets vs. Kentucky Wildcats prediction, pick for Saturday 8/30/25

The Toledo Rockets are considered one of the best Group of Five teams in college football this season, and have an outside chance to be in the College Football Playoff conversation. But if the Rockets are going to get to that point, they likely have to get an outright victory over a SEC school in the Kentucky Wildcats.

Toledo is no stranger to stepping up in competition, handling Mississippi State as a 10-point road dog last season, by a final score of 41-17. The Rockets opened the previous season as a nine-point road underdog to Illinois, losing by just two points on a late field goal. Jason Candle returns eight starters on an explosive offense, and has the ability to keep Kentucky on its toes here.

The Wildcats lost a handful of starters to the NFL, and will have a ton of turnover on the roster. If they have any issues coming together as a unit, particularly where they lost the most talent on defense, this experienced Toledo team could be in position to pounce. The spread on this game opened with Toledo +12.5, and was bet down to as low at 7.5 over the summer. I had played some +10 for a half a unit weeks ago, but now that the number has come back to double digits, I’ll recommend it as a play for Saturday afternoon. Look for the Rockets to continue stepping up to the competition in these early season road challenges.
