Spencer Strider under 16.5 outs recorded (-105)
The Braves start the week in Miami, taking on the Marlins in an NL East matchup. Normally, giving the ball to ace Spencer Strider would be a source of confidence for Atlanta, but the 26-year-old righty has been struggling badly in his last few outings.
His season-long numbers have been disappointing as he battled multiple injuries, going 5-11 with a 5.24 ERA, a 4.71 FIP, and a 26.1% K%, which is a huge drop from his 36.8% K% two years ago.
Strider has come in under this outs recorded mark in five straight starts, going 1-4 with a 10.38 ERA, 8.19 FIP, and 2.31 WHIP. He was originally scheduled to take the ball Sunday, but had this start pushed back as well.
He has the potential to bounce back and dominate, but the Marlins are a sneaky-solid offense this season, and I think they’ll continue his struggles. Even if he does pitch well, the Braves don’t have much reason to stretch him out to his max pitch count since they’re out of the playoff race.
Jacob deGrom over 7.5 strikeouts (+100)
Jacob deGrom is another veteran ace on the mound this Monday. He has had a very nice bounce-back season with the Rangers, going 10-5 with a 2.76 ERA, 3.47 FIP, and 0.93 WHIP. He has a 9.5 K/9 and 27.3% K% this year, averaging 6.2 strikeouts per outing.
The reason why this strikeout line is higher than the average is that deGrom has a great matchup against the Angels. Los Angeles leads the majors in K% on the season and also over the last two weeks. In their last 12 games, they have averaged 10.5 strikeouts per contest.
He has at least five strikeouts in 12 straight starts, and he has gone over this strikeout line in four of his last six outings. He faced the Angels twice in that span, striking out eight in five innings on July 28 and five in five innings on July 7.
Both of deGrom’s previous matchups against the Halos were on the road, but he has been much sharper this season overall at home. At Globe Life Field for this contest, he has a good shot to go over 7.5 strikeouts as the Rangers try to stay in the AL Wild Card hunt.
Hunter Greene over 6.5 strikeouts (-115)
I normally don’t focus on two overs in strikeout props on the same slate, but both Greene and deGrom are strong enough plays to make an exception.
Greene dazzled in his last outing, racking up 12 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings against the Angels (another example of their strikeout-prone ways). He had six strikeouts against the Phillies in his return from the injured list after missing over two months with a groin injury.
When available, Greene has gone 5-3 with a 2.63 ERA and 3.06 FIP, with 91 strikeouts in 72 innings. He has averaged 7.0 strikeouts per outing and has gone over this strikeout line in eight of his 12 starts that were not cut short by injury.
He does have a much tougher matchup on Monday than in his last start as he takes on the team from the other side of Los Angeles and tries to keep the Dodgers in check. While the Dodgers’ offense has plenty of firepower, they have a 22.1% K% on the season and a 23.0% K% over the last two weeks. They’ve averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game over that two-week stretch.
Greene will look to continue his strong return from injury on Monday night, and I think he’ll be able to get at least seven strikeouts.
