The NASCAR Cup will be contested outside of the United States for the first time today, as 37 of the world’s best drivers descend on Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City for the inaugural Viva Mexico 250. For the first time this season, Shane van Gisbergen has the pole position, although he did claim it in the NASCAR All-Star Open previously. The Kiwi is looking for his first win of the season, though he did claim the 2023 Grant Park 220.
The odds are heavily in favor of him getting the job done, as he is a +220 favorite to win the race at DraftKings Sportsbook. His best finish so far this season was sixth, which he achieved at the Echopark Automotive Grand Prix on March 2, but starting from the pole position is advantageous. Though no pole winner has ultimately claimed the race this season, the average finishing position for pole winners is 10.8.
The Viva Mexico 250 will take place tonight at 3 p.m. ET.
