The Red Sox bounced back and got a win on Saturday night against the Yankees as they continue to try to stay in the hunt for the Wild Card and stay near .500. They’ll finish their series in the Bronx on Sunday Night Baseball and will give the ball to Hunter Dobbins in one of the biggest starts of his major league career. Let’s take a look at my top player prop bet for Hunter Dobbins this Sunday night.
Dobbins’ Red Sox are still 9.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East, and the Yankees are heavily favored at -233 on the moneyline as they send Carlos Rodon to the hill to oppose Dobbins. The run line for the matchup is 7.5.
I covered some of my best prop bets for this game, including a pick for Rodon, but in this post, let’s focus on Dobbins’ side of this game and find a prop to use on the Red Sox’ 25-year-old righty.
Hunter Dobbins under 1.5 Walks Allowed (-110)
Dobbins has had a wide variety of results in his nine games this season, and he posted a 4.06 ERA, 3.38 FIP and 27 strikeouts in his 44 1/3 innings. He has had some high-strikeout outings where he has not pitched deep into the game, and a few more efficient outings where he went longer but struck out fewer. He has allowed zero or one run in four of his last eight games but has also given up 4+ runs in three of his last seven as well.
Throughout that volatility, though, he has been fairly consistent with his control. He has only walked more than one batter in two of his last eight games and one of his last six. On the season, he has just 10 walks in 44 1/3 innings, giving him an average of 2.09 BB/9. At that rate, he would have to pitch nine innings to get to two walks, which seems very unlikely against the Yankees.
Dobbins added fuel to the fire of the rivalry with his comments:
Hunter Dobbins; “If the Yankees were the last team to give me a contract, I’d retire. Whoever I was playing with or whoever I would have been drafted by, I’d still hate the Yankees. I’m hoping I hit a career-high in velo.”

Whether that fires him up or fires up the Yankees and their fans to crush him on Sunday night, you have to admire the bravado. He’ll definitely be a fan favorite in Fenway from now on after talking like this.
By using this walk prop, you get a good chance to hit regardless of how the rest of the outing plays out. Typically, Dobbins has been able to keep his walks low even when he has been hit hard. On the other hand, if he delivers a great performance and backs up his big talk, he’ll still likely be under this walk prop, since he’ll be at the top of his game.
