We’ve got baseball all day long this Wednesday as MLB has getaway games spread throughout the afternoon before seven games take place under the lights after 6:00 p.m. ET. There are plenty of great ways to jump into the action on DraftKings, so be sure to fill out your lineups and get your betting cards ready for what should be another beautiful day of baseball. Let’s take a look at some strong starting pitcher prop bets for Wednesday, with my top plays including picks for Hunter Greene, Matthew Boyd and Clarke Schmidt (with a bonus nod to George Kirby).
On Monday, I swished all three of my starting pitcher prop bets, continuing my red-hot run, which could definitely come to a screeching halt at any time. Let’s keep up the winning with these three starting pitcher props from Wednesday’s action.
Every day of the season, DraftKings Sportsbook offers multiple ways to get in on the action with player props, moneylines and picks against the spread from each MLB contest. You can also pick series winners, award winners and team futures, as well, so be sure to check out all the options available on the MLB page of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Hunter Greene under 5.5 strikeouts (+125)
I’m not a meteorologist, nor do I play one on TV, but the weather in this game will definitely be important to watch as we near first pitch. It looks dry to begin with with rain rolling in later in the game, which could abbreviate Greene’s outing depending on when it arrives. Even if rain isn’t a factor, though, I like getting the under on this strikeout prop at plus-money.
He only had two strikeouts in his last outing as he was eased back into the rotation after a stop on the 15-day IL due to a groin strain. He threw 83 pitches but only made it through four innings at home against the Cubs. Before landing on the IL, Greene had at least six strikeouts in seven of his eight starts, including an impressive 12-strikeout game against the Nationals. He even had six strikeouts in just three innings against the Braves before landing on the IL.
The Royals have been one of the lowest-scoring offenses in baseball, but they actually do not strike out a ton. They have the second-lowest strikeout rate in the majors this season, averaging barely 7.0 strikeouts per game. It’s not a great matchup for Greene to quickly pile up strikeouts, which he will need to do on Wednesday.
If he was fully healthy and the forecast was better, the over would be the play here, but the Reds will continue to be cautious with their growing star and the rain could be a factor, as well, so I’ll grab the under.
Matthew Boyd to record a win (-105)
Boyd has four wins in his 10 starts this season for the Cubs, who are looking to close out a sweep of the Rockies at Wrigley. Since the Rockies’ offense has struggled so badly all season, Boyd’s strikeout props, outs recorded props and even earned runs props are all very skewed, so instead I’m backing him to get a win at basically even money.
While he has won just under half his starts overall, he has won each of his four home starts, going 4-0 at Wrigley Field with a 3.00 ERA, 4.28 FIP and just a 1.08 WHIP in 24 innings.
He should get run support against Tanner Gordon, and I highlighted how good the matchup is for the Cubs offense in my MLB stacks article. The Cubs are 9-2 in their last 11 games, while the Rockies have been historically bad, going 9-46 so far this season and losing nine of their last 10 games. They are just 3-24 on the year away from Coors Field, so the Cubs are in a good spot to get the win on Wednesday.
Even though lots of elements have to go right for a starting pitcher to get a win, I expect Boyd to do enough to get the victory at Wrigley, and so I’m going with him as one of my top starting pitcher prop bets.
Race to Three Strikeouts: Clarke Schmidt over Yusei Kikuchi (+105)
In one of the two late games, the Yankees are in Anaheim, taking on Yusei Kikuchi and the Angels. For the third of my starting pitcher prop bets, I’m taking the quick-hitter race to three strikeouts prop, which has Schmidt at plus-money over Kikuchi. The lay-up in the “race to three” field on Wednesday feels like George Kirby over Trevor Williams (-175), but I’m ready to take a little more risk and go with Schmidt. You could parlay the two at a nice +222, as well.
Schmidt has a 24.2% strikeout rate this season, while Kikuchi comes in with a 20.7% rate. The Angels’ starter has 15 strikeouts over 17 1/3 innings in his last three starts, while Schmidt has piled up 19 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings over his last three starts.
When you add in that the Angels have a 27.1% strikeout rate on the season compared to a 22.4% figure for the Yankees, I think there’s enough margin for Schmidt to make up the advantage Kikuchi has of pitching first for each half-inning and get to three strikeouts before Kikuchi does.
