It’s Friday night at Camden Yards, and the Royals are set to keep some streaks alive, should all break as trends suggest. With Wacha’s control and the momentum behind Witt Jr., the Royals are primed to capitalize on the Orioles’ weaknesses. But it’d be a steal of a win with Baltimore at home. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Friday night baseball game between the Orioles and the Royals.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Orioles vs. Royals prediction, preview
Kansas City enters this series as an underdog, but there’s a compelling case to be made for their upset potential tonight. With the Orioles struggling at home and the Royals carrying momentum from a sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, it’s clear that the form is shifting in the Royals’ favor.
The key factor here is pitching: Michael Wacha’s steady 3.38 ERA provides stability, and he’s coming off a dominant performance against Houston, allowing just four hits in six shutout innings. He’s been remarkably consistent, especially in limiting hard contact, and that’s something the Orioles—who rank near the bottom in several offensive categories—struggle to cope with. In contrast, Dean Kremer has been a liability for Baltimore, with a bloated 7.04 ERA and a penchant for allowing hard hits and home runs. Kremer’s recent outings have been marked by inefficiency, surrendering multiple runs in key innings, and his high WHIP is a red flag against a team like the Royals, who are clicking offensively despite their overall struggles.
At the plate, Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. is on fire, extending his hitting streak to 22 games. His .322 batting average and dynamic ability to hit for both power and average make him a constant threat, while Vinnie Pasquantino, and a semi-surprising Maikel Garcia add depth to an offense that’s been surprisingly resilient. The Royals’ lineup may not be the most prolific, but they’re capitalizing on key moments and showing an ability to take advantage of mistakes—something to which Kremer is prone.
Royals vs. Orioles pick, best bet
The Orioles, on the other hand, have been inconsistent, especially at home, where their pitchers have posted the second-worst ERA in the league. Despite Cedric Mullins’ impressive bat and Ryan O’Hearn’s power, the Orioles’ offense is struggling to put up consistent numbers. They’ve been a letdown when favored, winning only 37.5% of their games as the favorite this season. Even with Wacha’s impressive numbers, the Orioles’ inability to capitalize on their favorable matchups—and Kremer’s ongoing struggles—suggest that the Royals could steal another win here.
There’ve been a few trend-bucking nights this week. Nonetheless, the Royals are 6-1 in their last seven as underdogs, and they’ve been solid in their last few road games, covering the spread in each of their last five Friday games against AL East opponents. Conversely, the Orioles have faltered in these exact spots, failing to cover the run line in seven of their last eight home games after a win.
This is a situation ripe for a Royals’ victory, especially with Wacha on the mound and the Orioles’ bullpen vulnerabilities in play. Take the KC +123 on the Moneyline. And Witt gets to 23.
Best bet: Royals (-155) at Orioles
